do you prefer sinking hours into farming what you want or buying it with nmts, igb, or tbt?

I farm most of the time. The times that i buy are typically from friends.

I'd have to say farming since I rarely visit other people or have other people visit me. I was able to go to my friend's island a couple of times last week. I have red surfboards, so when I visited her island, she had a wooden looking surfboard. I bought it, but after a while when she wanted to visit my island she hit the minus button and I don't know what happened. I lost everything I bought.

I guess it depends on what it is! I spent a long time hustling online to build up my stock of NMT and IGB, now that IGB isn't worth what it used to be I find myself spending NMT and TBT a lot more. I don't TT so that hurts my ability to get items quickly and it's much more convenient to purchase it outright. Plus I get to meet loads of people and see a lot of cool islands on trades! So it works out well!

Losing progress from using end session is terrifying. There are so many load screens and dialogue going to another's island it drives me crazy.

Ditto, I dunno what to do with NMTs or IGBs but I still enjoy farming. :)

Yeah, I'm going to have to let her know the next time she or I visit, because I remember hearing about using the minus button and corrupt data happening. I'm not sure if they've managed to fix that or not, but I'd rather not take the risk.

Event/NPC items with RNG involved I don't mind buying them online. I bought a couple of the Gullivarrr and Gulliver items because neither of them ever show up. I also gave in and bought some future seasonal items. But for general stuff on my crafting menu I will farm the materials myself or trade material stacks.

I think next update allows for save backups. I'm always terrified of losing over 1000 hr of progress.

That would be great. None of the Animal Crossing games have ever allowed for back ups. Even on the GameCube, the game came with its very own memory card. I had a black memory card that held a whole lot more data and tried to copy my AC data to that just to be safe. But it wouldn't allow it for some reason. I don't know if it's just a really big game and that's the reason, or if there is this idea that people are going to duplicate certain things. I don't really know.

If it’s an item I need like right then for my island (usually happens when my decorating inspiration is high) I’ll go look for it online. But if it’s an item I know for sure I’ll eventually get myself, like a seasonal recipe, then I can typically wait it out

when im a in a rush to complete my island, which has been recently all the time,i buy. or else, i just farm.

It depends. Some things I'm pretty adamant about getting on my own - hybrids and museum donations. Others I don't mind buying/trading for, especially when it comes to variants that are island locked.

Might take me a little longer to complete things, but it isn't as if there's a deadline to meet.

even art? ppl seem to struggle a bit with certain pieces

For the first piece that's donated, yes, I only buy from Redd. I will do that on a friend's island, if I'm visiting though.

Fakes and duplicate genuine (to be used in my house or around the island) I will buy through trades.

I'm expecting the art to take a very long time to complete.

Farming most definitely. I love the woodsy feel of the fall items, but since I have a NH island I had to travel for the materials. It took like 30 minutes to get 15 pine cones or acorns, but I loved the process. Now that winter has hit SH the only non-time travel way to get them is by purchasing them. The problem (at least on Nookazon)? Price-gouging. One (1!) pine cone goes for 80k there. You have to spend like 60 NMT to be in the RUNNING for a stack of them. Once September rolls around don’t be surprised if I start giving them away!
