exp share pokemon

in pokemon platinum how does the exp share work i don't understand it, and if I equip it to my highest lvl, will the lowest lvl get the xp?

You give it to a Pokemon on your team and when you battle with a different Pokemon, some of the EXP goes to the Pokemon holding the EXP Share.
