Has anyone/does anyone play this game? I heard about it from a Discord server I'm in, and it looks cute, but I'm not sure if I want to play it (even though it's free, lol). If you have/do, let me know about your experience!

i played a bit of Elsword like YEARS ago, and it was pretty fun. i was hooked at the beginning, but i realized it's pay-to-win and i kinda lost interest, especially after i started playing LoL :rolleyes:

OMG yay, someone replied! xD Ah, that stinks, I hate games like that! Hmm, how long did you end-up playing it for?

i don't really remember tbh >.< i think...for about a month or so? i'm surprised it still exists and people play it, who knows, maybe it's more worth paying for now? it's not a bad game from what i remember, i just really don't like pay-to-win games, i prefer to either pay for something from the start, or just have the option to pay for extras like skins and stuff :confused:

While I've not played it, I did Google it and have a quick glance. It looks to be a Korean MMO, and I have certainly had experience with the genre in the past, they all tend to follow the same trend; free to play, but if you stick to your guns and don't spend money you'll be spending a ton of time grinding to make progress instead. This typically only extends to endgame content, so if you wanted to play it exclusively for the story and fun of leveling, I don't see any harm in it. I've never seen a Korean MMO with a hard paywall so I'm willing to bet the microtransactions are limited to loot boxes and boosters (like EXP and gold), and probably costumes too.

The Steam reviews are likely a good gauge if you wanted to get a feel for what to expect. Doesn't look half bad but the game seems to be quite old too, so the reviews may not be accurate to the current state of the game. You'll never know until you try! I've done the same with some MMOs in the past and I for sure enjoyed my stay, although it was short.

ive played a lot of elsword since 2013. the character designs and the different classes u can take are the best things about this game. at its core, its very very fun to play. unfortunately the game is kinda dead now. KOR is probably the most thriving, NA still has some players and any other server is completely dead. the game is also pretty much p2w. its not impossible to get good gear and items to get one of ur characters to the fullest potential as f2p, but the game will become much more time consuming than it already is. NA players also have a rep for being toxic. if ur going to play, id recommend going on the voidels server. fast level ups, better drop rates, better community and many things arent behind a paywall. but ur still probably going to be playing solo 90% of the time until u get into the level 90 range since most people playing are up there, and it doesnt take very long.

I played Elsword NA since around release up to a few years ago. I was a free player and still managed to get to the top PVP rank tier and get cute costumes. There is a lot of grinding involved, and a lot of NA players get really salty, but if you find some friends to stick with it can be pretty fun.

Thanks, everyone for all of your responses!

I'm usually good at avoiding paying for things, especially since I'm not very good at games like these, so I never level-up high enough to make the pay-for items worth it. xD Also, @ipecac, that's kind of good news for me that the NA servers aren't as busy, since I do like playing solo, as bizarre as that sounds, since it is an MMO. esp. if they are going to be toxic/salty! I wonder why that is? Or are NA players like that in general with co-op/MMO/MMORPGs? >_<;

And @Splendor and @Elvengale you're right, no harm in trying, and maybe I can find a few people to play with! And I don't LOVE grinding (who does), but I understand it's an integral element to games like this! And most games that I play. :rolleyes:

I really appreciate all of the input and advice, I think I will check it out and play a bit this weekend to see if I like it or not. And if any of you decide to play again/pick it up, hmu because it would be great to have a guide through the game!

I had a friend in junior high that loved it so i tried to play it, but I’m not really into rpg games in general so it wasn’t for me D: maybe you can download it and give it a try. If you don’t like it you can always uninstall like I did hh
