Does anybody on here play any of the pre-Skyrim Elder Scrolls games? I recently got really into wanting to buy up all the old game since I love Skyrim so much.

My friend on tumblr who posts her stills from Skyrim posted a silhouetted picture of two silt striders, and it got me so jazzed! So I was wondering if anybody thinks it would be worth it? Have you played any of the older Elder Scrolls games and would you recommend them being worth playing?

I have all five of the main ES games and I'd highly recommend playing the last three (the first two might be tricky unless you buy the PC boxset). While I love Skyrim and it's beauty I personally preferred most of the quests in Oblivion and Morrowind.

Oblivion is one of my favorite games, if not thee favorite. It's shivering isles expansion is so awesome.

Skyrim and Oblivion are both really good. I liked the paint brush glitch on Oblivion though. I used it to close so many of the portals lol. I didn't realize that once you beat the game they all close automatically.

I played Morrowind on the OG Xbox. I only really knew about it because of one guy who recommended it to me, I don't remember anybody else actually knowing about it at the time. Then again, it was a PC only game before Morrowind and PC gaming was pretty 'niche'.

It was pretty fun though and quite open ended. I enjoyed the exploration more in it since it didn't hold your hand, it kind of told you what to do and where to go but you were actually expected to read the conversations and work some things out for yourself.
Plus you were open to do a lot more from the start and you could kill important NPC's. I liked this since it actually gave you more consequences to your actions, where as most important NPC's are protected in Skyrim...

I spent way more time with Oblivion on the 360. I'm pretty sure I did and saw everything in that game. It's by far my favorite, even if the character models are hilariously bad.

Skyrim was a disappointment to me. The world was nice n' all but it was just so stripped down and 'simplified'. It was an open world game but it felt so linear. It had protected NPC's that couldn't die which I hated, as well as a lot of mechanics being pretty much broken (that friggin' OP stealth...). And whilst the world looked nice, all the interiors looked copy and paste.
Dragons were also a massive let down considering the entire marketing scheme was "LOOK! DRAGONS!". They were just so lame, especially compared to other dragon encountered in similar games released at the time (Dragons Dogma). And I just thought shouts were stupid an awfully stupid gimmick.

PC version was alright since you can mod pretty much everything I hated about it. It's actually pretty much the only game I do use mods for. I thought the base game was a massive let down though.

A lot of people aren't too fond of vanilla Skyrim, I actually liked it but I agree it's simple and I really would prefer getting my PC fixed so I can play it. I think I will go ahead and get the two previous to Skyrim games because they look like fun and I've gotten a lot more into gaming recently.

Pretty much what Tao said.

Started off with Morrowind and loved it, Oblivion took it's place as my new favorite, and then Skyrim was a major disappointment compared to the previous two in the series.

fus ro dah!

Skyrim is my favourite game! <3

I got skyrim then oblivion and thought that oblivion was disapointing. I would just stick to skyrim.

The graphics of oblivion will be a let down after playing skyrim, and the leveling, crafting, and magic are quite different from skyrim. I would say skyrim is more accessible to the average gamer, whereas oblivion is a bit more involved. But the game itself is so fun. I really enjoyed skyrim, but dont have expectations for morrowind and oblivion to be like skyrim.

I really enjoyed Oblivion. There were many things to do, and I felt like the "world" was more alive. There were a lot of varying locations to go to. The graphics aren't as great as Skyrim, but I don't really play games for the graphics.

That being said, I do really like Skyrim, but the game has it's faults.

As far as Morrowind goes, I couldn't really get into it. I found the game boring, I've played around 35 hours of Morrowind, but it didn't hold my attention as much as Oblivion or Skyrim did.
