The US will probably fail economically in our lifetime unless drastic changes are made.

Well let me put it this way... when the US went through it's Great Depression in the 30s the entire world did the same. And when there's depression and collapse everywhere... not good things happen. The depression is what helped bring Nazi Germany and Adolf Hitler to power.

The irony of these things (which is mentioned in the video for the current situation) is that government tries to fix the problem. But the problem itself is government so they only make it worse until... collapse. The Great Depression, for example, would have been over shortly if the free market was left alone to handle it. However, the US government under FDR lengthened it (a lot) with government intervention.

But money does make the world go 'round.[/quote]Especially when a government forces you to hand it over so they can give it to their best buddies in the big corporations and accidentally crash the entire economic system in the process. :gyroidsurprised:

I smell Obama....

Anyways, the government shouldn't be taking risks like that. I'm pretty sure if they go broke, we're all screwed.

The government is already broke. It's about 10 tril in dept with 56 tril in obligations on top of that.

Do you guys honestly think this will have no effect on Canada, much less the entire world? EVERYONE is going to be feeling something... the EU is already near a recession... let me put it this way: if Japan is any indicator of what economic reconstruction looks like, we'll be in for a long ride. A very, very long ride.

Damn speculators. This is what happens when they give out loans with super-low interest rates and then sell off their contracts to the Chinese... now, what do you know... the Chinese are now no longer owning these contracts, but they're also buying OUR PROPERTIES... pretty soon China can just declare that they own the U.S., the way things are going.

And how about the deficit? Where the hell are these $700 billion coming from when we're trillions of dollars in debt? World leaders are obviously not convinced... and Bush will not reassure them. "Bold, aggressive, decisive action" my ass. I'm no financial expert, and I have no idea what needs to be done in a situation like this, but $700 billion? Where is this money coming from? Are we perhaps loaning more money from China? Fantastic.

Why not just raise taxes on the rich... I realize this is sounding like what Obama wants to do, but why not balance funds? Keep taxes the same on lower class, and raise the hell out of them for the rich and somewhat for the middle class.

And in addition to economic woes, we've got all this crap going on in Iran and North Korea. Bad times. : (

Edit - Actually, I think they may be just printing money, not loaning from China. Which is even worse! The dollar's gonna hit rock bottom.

Don't crai! We'll get the cheezburger sumday! :gyroidveryhappy:

But hey with an economic collapse...Live fast die young anyone? Our country's in some economic collapse, our planet's icecaps are melting, a war is still going and disease's are evolving, becoming immune to pesticides and antibiotics. There are more issues..they become muted as we live and more issues get worse.

It sounds like at the beginning that the Gov is trying to do both, keep takes low while trying to get out of debt. You can't do both! Work on one thing and it should be able to correct its self. But w/e... The Gov. is messed up anyways...

You don't have to raise taxes when you could cut back on government spending. The government wastes billions daily. Not to mention that all the departments in the federal government our tax money goes to are illegal institutions according to the Constitution. Also, just to put this into perspective... if we got rid of the IRS (also illegal) today the income would be about the same as it was in 1997!

My beliefs? I don't really have a belief in that area. But I do think that the media over-emphasize most things. Im on to you MTV!!!!!

The media is not reliable at all (especially MTV, lol).
