So I think that I am not hugely fond of paths and patterned outdoors in New Leaf. At the same time, I don't want new villagers to show up and move on top of my flowers or forests.

I had a thought that I could create a single "grass" style of pattern, then hide it behind trees or between flowers, where it might seem less noticeable. Then, for other areas I would like to keep underdeveloped, I thought I could litter the pattern like pepperoni on a pizza.

Has anyone had success with this strategy? Am I overthinking it? A new neighbor is moving in right next to my mayor and I already want to kick him or her out.

Thanks for reading and your thoughts. And if anyone has any perfect grass patterns for the triangle shape, let me know!

I do it for my own zoning control. I use a colored green pattern with a town’s beginning day. I apply it wherever—however (even with some of your ideas mentioned)—and it is a lot of work. For me, it works out.

That sounds like a neat idea! The only issue that I've run into with similar strategies is that the grass color changes with the seasons, but you could work around that by changing the colors of your design each time the grass color changes.

This is one reason why I hope the next animal crossing game has the ability to have transparent pixels in designs... I would love the ability to make a design that just looks like a few fallen leaves or a stepping stone and have that overlay over the grass.

I would love to have that transparent option. :)

I feel like, with the transparent option, I would just coat my entire town in a waxy pattern cover.
