Dont judge a villager by their picture!

There's a lot that cant be known about villagers just by looking at there pictures.. please share anything you know that cannot be seen in their pictures.. examples could be their voices, expressions, markings.. ect!

I just noticed from watching a video that fauna has a really pretty white pattern on the back of her head!! Boyd has a really deep voice although im not sure if he has the deepest... i wonder if all of the villagers have different voices!?

I said this in another thread, but what the heck. I find that when I see/ interact with a villager in the game, i often find them more cute than i do just from seeing the pictures online. Ursala is a great example 9pm this. And a couple times the opposite, and I didn’t like a villager I found on a mystery island as much as expected.

If you are thinking of hunting for a villager, download the ACNH.Guide app (Which actually works now with the latest update) and click the random Dream island button til you see an island with that villager and then go visit and talk to them. That way you see reactions in actual game play and can make a better decision. I soooooo wish I had been able to do this before buying Amiibos for villagers I turned out to not love after interacting with them

you definitely need to meet them in person to get a better idea of their personality! I realise there are set personalities so villagers aren't exactly going to differ greatly but there's little thing about them that you just won't know unless you meet them. this perhaps isn't so much a great example but I never saw the appeal of beau that much beyond his appearance, but now his love of gardening just melts my heart!

I have beau right now just to get the lazy reactions, for the most part find him ok, but think he looks much better when his eyes fully open, which he only does in conversation when surprised

I initially didn’t like Dom because of his eyes, but now that i have him, I think that is part of what makes him so endearing, at least to me. He won’t be a permanent resident, but he will be added to my villagers that I like list.

Hazel - I initially was one of the people that did not like her based on her appearance, but in combination from hearing people talk and post pictures of her and meeting her myself has helped me develop an interest in this lovely squirrel (not being sarcastic btw).

I was never much of a hippo villager fan, but when I just recently visited @JSS ’s island, I met Rocco and I actually thought he looked pretty good, especially in the bunny day outfit lol (I thought he looked kinda cute in it with that grumpy expression).

There are plenty more, but those are the most recent.

ditto. same reason why i didn't like him at first but after seeing so many cute fanarts and videos of him on twitter, i eventually ended up seeing him under a new light lol. love the little guy and im glad to have him on my island now.

also my first impression of fang singing was totally thrown off because his talking voice is so deep but his singing voice is higher

The biggest unpopular opinion about to be posted, but I’m going to post it anyways.

Barold looks quite nice in an island in person. I really didn’t even like him before. I remember back in new leaf he was on my top of the ugliest villager list. However now that I have him on my town, I love him. I think right now he is my favorite villager. Every I see him, he just gets cuter and cuter.

That poster picture he has as default though, really does nothing for him (especially the ugly shirt he is wearing).Once slightly customized though, he is great. 100% recommend getting Barold.

I put Cousteau on my dreamie list because he looked cute in pictures. He had such a sweet smile on his face. Until I met him on a dream island and realised that his eyes are always like that, not just when he puts on a happy expression. And yea, now I'm not sure if I still want to get him.

For me, I think you often miss their hair/fur/skin/feather texture in pictures. For example, Teddy doesn't look that great in his photo (why the picked that tacky shirt and background for him, I have no idea), but in person he looks so soft and fuzzy! He is by far and away my softest, cuddliest looking villager in person.

Likewise, the ostriches' tails all have gorgeous shading that you can only see from the back, and is especially visible when they sit (to listen to K.K. Slider, etc.). Cranston has the most GORGEOUS light pink and white ombre tail feathers, and Flora's tail is really pretty, too!

I always look up videos of the villager I'm interested in on Youtube! I totally agree that you might be missing out on a villager you like a lot just by going by the picture. It's easy to see their picture and be like nope and not ever really giving them a chance. Seeing them on youtube gives me an idea of how interacting with them will be like, how they look on an island and just their general vibe. Also it might just be me but I feel like the voices of same personality types can be slightly different.

Midge looks like she has quite the odd design on the back of her head. It kind of looks like the equivalent to an egg, if you know what I mean (I’m not sure what other language I should use to describe it on the forums).

I think there are several - in addition to the ones mentioned above, Cobb and Octavian both have bandages. Marina has a ribbon. Even if you gift Marina a ribbon she still wears the one on the back of her head

One thing you usually can't find in their official art/models are the tails of the birds. They're all so different and make them really seem like different species! It's a shame their model renders don't somehow allow us to see the tails off to the side like the squirrels.
