Does tanning on the island work on idle?

I am trying to tan, and i need to see if it works on idle, a simple yes or no is all i need, and maybe an explanation

Yes, but you want to hop into the ocean to do it. You'll get stung by lots of jellies, but the game will just consider you as swimming and not idle then. When I saw someone do it they went all the way to a far corner of the map, I can't recall if there was a specific reason or not.

But yes, idle while swimming and you're good : )

Really? I heard that it fades fast. Asking because I'm adding my boyfriend as a character into my town and it would be great to have him look a little more, well, like himself, lol. Really wish the game offered different skin variations. But at least I know I can send his character's butt to the island.

you have to earn it though
