Does not having a personality type affect NMT islands?

I've been seeing a lot of people talk about booting out their smug villagers to hunt for Raymond - does not having a certain type of villager (e.g. smug) increase your chances of finding that villager type on a NMT island?

But having said that, I assume it's only an increase of the chance? Because when I had a normal villager in my island I found Marina on a NMT island despite that.

i don't think it does affect it because my sister has 2 cranky villagers yet she still found apollo 3 times while island hopping for sherb

It helps with the campsite. If you have every personality but one, that personality will be favored in the camp. But, campers seem to be so rare that time traveling is helpful if you want to try using the campsite. And, it won't *always* be smugs. It just is more weighted towards smugs since the game wants you to have every personality.

It's completely random.
How it works is that it randomly chooses a villager species and then rolls for a random villager within that species.
That means that there is a 35 in 100 chance of a cat appearing (since there are 35 types of animals), and a 0.1% chance of a specific cat villager, in this case Raymond, apearing on a island.

After my lazy left I went to 3 NMT islands and got 3 lazy villagers in a row - Big Top, Tucker, and then Zucker who I invited.. So I'm surprised to hear that its totally random - I thought I was cycling through lazy villagers!

Im gonna have to say no. Just based on the duplicates ive seen of certain villagers.

I don't think it does, I don't have a cranky and in 15 tickets I didn't run into a single one

adding onto this thread, i have fauna as my normal villager on my island but i managed to run into merengue on the mystery island. i was also able to get her to join my island

No I don’t think it does I’m pretty sure it’s random however I was watching a stream yesterday and he was saying from spending a lot of time island hopping and accumulating data, he found certain personality types were on the island at specific times
