...absolutely hate when the inside of a villagers house doean't actually look like a home?

I realize I am being a total house snob, but I find it jarring and unpleasant to step into a house and suddenly seem to be in an urban alleyway, classroom, beach...etc.

There are villagers I like, but absolutely will not have them on my island on a permanent basis because of this.

Anyone else, or am I alone in my snobbery? XD

I completely agree!! I had been desperately wanting Derwin the lazy duck, and there were no pictures of his interior at all! Just a pic of him with a starter house, so I had no idea what his house would look like once I finally got him to move in! I was soooo sad to see that the inside of his house is just a park design! =( at least I got to update his wiki page and give him some love.

edit: I also don't like when the inside of their house doesn't really fit their personality/character design. =/

I don't mind it, actually.

On the other hand, I dislike when the houses are ugly or boring!
I had merry for a short while, and while the outside of her house is adorable, the inside is absolutely hideous imo!

Also, how come Skye doesn't have the cloud flooring & sky wall??

One of my favorite houses is Tasha's.
It's a total mood.

Yes!! Beau, Dom, Audie and Norma all have outdoor themed houses. I also don't like it when an animal has a house that's themed like... idk a bathroom or something? Or like, Raymond's office. I like it when they have a bed so I know they get sleep.

I hate that!! I had zucker (ew) for a day while I desperately TT'd to amiibo him out and his house was god AWFUL. I'm not too much of a fan of Audie's either. My husband has her and she has Bubbles' house but my Audie has the house she is supposed to have in NH. I wish mine had Bubbles' house!

I really like Julia's, Wolfgang's and Marshal's houses.

It depends for me. Some of the designs are good and some look like little thought was put into furniture choice and/or the placement.

I saw Boris’s house and it was amazing, but Boris is a slavic name I believe, so I thought his house would have a more European theme. It bugged me a bit how his house didn’t match him at all (or in my opinion). Ankha’s furniture is kinda nice but it looks like the thought was mostly in giving her golden furniture and a pyramid and less about the design and placement (and a golden toilet? a bit random...).

Then there’s poor Gaston’s house. :/ His has been the worst that I’ve seen; I think @oak can vouch for this as well since she did a wonderful makeover for the tbt fair contest :),

The ones that are fully decorated like Kiki’s, Roscoe’s to name a few are a bit underwhelming and boring to me too :/ but they aren’t the worst (especially when looking at the other houses). Sherb’s is nice but since he has bug friends and leaves crumbs around the house, I didn’t expect his house to have a cute and kind elegant looking interior to it (Punchy’s house is too neat looking too).

That was the main reason I left Flora in her starter house. I've been working on making the furniture a little cuter for her, instead.

I'd love to give Gruff, Dobie, and Snake cozier interiors, but they have cool items I don't want sent to the void, so I'm holding off.

While I’m fine with some themed houses (I think it’s obvious that I’m quite fond of woodsy-themed houses) a lot of villagers have utterly awful rooms. They ruined best birb Sterling by turning his library/ballroom house into a DUNGEON.

However, I think Jacob the lazy bird got the EXTREMELY short end of the stick...

Not my picture but I’ve seen the poor dude’s house online.

I love the themed houses cause it gives the villagers more personality and individuality than the limited dialogue allows (like Raymond is in business/medicine, Vesta is a tailor, Marshal and Tia own cafes, Eugene is in the FBI, Pashmina has a diner, Dobie is a librarian/detective, etc etc). But I completely agree that the trash houses are just unfair :(

and I still like it better than so many peppies having the exact same house interior, and same for a lot of snooties too.

I probably got lucky. So far, all of their houses are quite liveable. It has a bed for sleeping and table for dining. Some of them even has a fireplace to make the place look cozy.

I don't mind it sometimes, like you said with your examples those at least feel like they make sense (and they look really nice!), Derwin's past homes were themed like schools/libraries and fit his skill/goal (skill of brainteasers & goal is doctor!) as well as his nerdy design!

which is why he was interesting and appealing to me >.<!

I liked Butch's home in NL, but his home in NH is an abandoned pit stop on the highway. They took some of the houses a bit too far. While I didn't care for every house in the other games, at the very least they looked like someone would live in them. It just feels too much like a prop in that way.

I know some folks wouldn't like or use such a feature, but it would be wonderful (imho) if at a high level of friendship you could offer to buy your villager a makeover or home renovation.

Do it like Happy Home Designer style, but with your bells as the budget and your catalogue as what you can order. Then you set it up, finalize, and maybe over a week or so their house transitions to the new look as the ordered items arrive by post?

tbh im kind of torn on how i feel about it. i would most definitely prefer if all villagers had interiors that looked like kind of a basic house, but
there's just not a lot of furniture/unique furniture for all houses to be decorated like that without being similar like DoeReMi said, a lot of villager personality types do have very similar interiors, with Snooties being a personality that definitely stood out the most to me. like a lot of them have the rose bed!! kinda weird.

bc of the fact that their furniture choices were so limited, i understand why they had to make quite a few interiors not a basic house instead. it's a bit disappointing to me, but when it comes to villager houses, i'm more concerned with what they look like on the exterior more than the interior.

I try not to let it bother me too much for the most part, but yeah there are some pretty bad looking interiors that I would rather not see much of. Chief, Jacob, and Lucky come to mind when I think of interiors I don’t like much. Although Lucky’s interior does suit his theme (it’s a graveyard) so I can kind of get past that and still wouldn’t mind having him on my island since I like his design. Currently the only villager I have on my island that I’m not too fond of their interior is Ribbot, but he’s not a permanent resident so it’s okay.

I honestly don't mind too much as I tend to not spend a lot of time in my villager's houses anyways unless I'm looking for someone in particular and their light is on

It depends. Lol I just realized most of my villagers have a bed in their home. Katt is my only villager who doesn't have a bed, but her home still looks like a room I'd find in a house so I'm fine with it. I've had Beau on my island, and his home is a campsite/picnic area. I guess his home isn't really the "home" that most people think of, but I like it since I could see a deer living in the wilderness. I also just like nature themes.

On the other hand, I find it difficult to invite villagers to my island if their home doesn't suit my taste. Some homes bother me when the furniture doesn't fit the villager's theme; there is lack of/too much color; or I just don't like the theme. For instance, I dislike the wooden-block furniture in Fauna's and Goldie's homes because I think the pieces resemble a toy theme. Imo more natural-looking pieces from the antique, ironwood, and ironwood series would've been better for their theme. On a side note, Fauna's home reminds me of a pepperoni pizza (I love the food but-). Also I guess I just really liked the pink and yellow accents in her NL home. As for Goldie's home, it's so plain and I wish there was a greater pop of color. Then there's Merry's home, which seems oversaturated with orange light. I wish we could adjust the light settings in villagers' homes. I'm fine with "boring" homes or homes that seem incomplete, but I do wonder what was going on in the developers' minds when they were designing Mitzi's home lol. Lastly don't even get me started on Chief's home! 😭 His NL home wasn't the best imo, but his NH home bothers me. I'm not a fan of the urban alleyway theme. I just feel like a mountain theme would've fit him better. cry Compared to NL, I rarely see people talk about him or have him in their islands in NH. Not sure if this has something to do with his home.
