For some reason, I ALWAYS end up with way less regular wood than any of the others... but the coloring of the softwood is the same as palm trees, hardwood as cedar, and wood as regular... does anyone else get annoyed that what wood you get is random, when it could easily be designated by the type of tree? I get it might make things a little harder when first starting out, but it just feels so weird to get that super dark hardwood when I'm chopping a palm tree 😆

I decided to make a poll 'cause I'm curious... both about your answer and how polls work on here 😛

yes I would love this. I think it would also save the amount of axes that break if I'm not cutting extra trees for wood i don't need

the thing that annoys me is that there are trees literally CALLED hard wood trees when you pick them up! why couldnt they just name all of them hard wood, soft wood, and normal wood trees and then just... correspond the wood drops with the names??
also as far as the starting out thing goes, they could just adjust the early game recipes so they use the most common wood available

Yes. I have a very difficult time getting dark wood compared to soft wood and regular wood. There's a lot of furniture I want to make, but the game spites me.

Definitely would prefer this. I'm not a big fan of the current rng method of getting wood.

Glad to see I'm not alone! It just annoys me when I need ONE type of wood, but then I only get the others... and I have to either sell it or stuff the 20th pile in my storage.

Agreed! You get the other types soon enough, but they would need to change some things. Like, I think the basic shovel recipe takes hardwood?

Huh... I wonder if some people are more likely to get one type compared to another- I get softwood and hardwood WAAAY more often than regular wood, to the point where I'm out of wood in my storage, but I have stack after stack of the other two. SO annoying!

Maybe. I have heard a similar thing happening with all the living creatures you can catch in this game. A friend of mine plays the game on the exact date, and she has come over to get sea creatures and told me that she was finding sea creatures in my ocean that she wasn't finding in hers. So maybe it does work the same way with the wood.

I have barely any regular wood left and tons of soft wood. I go collecting for more wood and end up with way more soft or hard then regular wood.
Same! And SO many recipes use regular wood, it's just such a pain...

I've heard that, too! But, at the same time, I'm always hesitant when people insist they've found patterns in things that may be totally random... after all, the human brain is always looking for patterns. I've seen people INSIST they've found certain tricks or ways to affect RNG, only for dataminers to discover that it's just not true.

Yup, I see my parents do this all the time. I call it them putting on their Animal Crossing tinfoil hats. They say that they wear them proudly.

and yea, I’d like for the wood types to be separate (or give normal wood a bias!)

Some people get way over the top with it 😆

And yes! You'd think, the way it works, it WOULD have a bias since it seems more recipes use it than the others. But, even accounting for those recipes, I seem to always end up with too much hard and softwood.

I have a metric ton of softwood. I might do a DUCKTOBER giveaway soon lol

I think the lack of regular wood is universal. I've seen so many people complain from this, me included. And the abundance of softwood as well, I have about 10 stacks and none of the other 2 atm

Yah, it seems they really need to make some tweaks, it's just weird how it's set up :unsure:

coconut = softwood
normal = wood
cedar = hardwood

would've been my ideal world. I have so much trouble getting hardwood! And same with everyone else, I have way too much softwood. HarI have like 4 stacks of normal and 0 hardwood...

I guess this might've been "too easy" but getting some bright coloured wood from a cedar tree looks weird

I've thought about this too! I think the reason why it is the way it is right now is also how rocks are random too, like random amounts of clay, stone, iron or even gold. It makes sense when you link it to rocks as well, since there isn't really a way to manipulate and get more iron than stone for instance.

I mean, they're colored that way! It seems so weird that they'd color code them... but then, just, not follow through. And yes, light wood from cedar, and dark wood from palm is just bizarre. Regular trees could produce either, I guess, but the light/dark difference is too big for the others!

Huh, I never thought to compare it to rocks! Still, I think you're right, it makes more sense from rocks. You can get ore from rocks that don't initially appear to have ore in them... at least, in other video games. My experience with mining comes purely from video games 😅 But it seems weirder and less convenient for trees.

Honestly, no.

I kind of like that the wood you get is random, and I don't mind having excess. It's not too much work to sell it or to craft it into something. I wouldn't like having specific trees because I just know I'd be so focused on trying to have the exact right number of trees to suit my needs, but have to worry about how to place the trees so they look nice but random at the same time....
