As the title says. Me personally, I enjoy trading.
There are so many nice people who are willing to trade with you and if you're searching for something you can find it pretty quick.
I'm just not patient enough to wait for something to appear in my own game.

trading lol

Sometimes it's fun to get them yourself though like on weeding day : D (only if you're aiming for a few pieces not the set lol)

I prefer to get everything myself unless it's something that I can't physically get in-game myself (DLC and holiday items from other regions, etc.) because I'm stubborn. I'm now working on getting every single artwork for the museum by myself. I've only got two paintings and one statue left, I believe.

With the exception of a few Fortune Cookie items and several Gyroids, I've pretty much gotten every single furniture item that I can get by myself without trading or even using HHA Showcase (exceptions include the Sloppy/Cardboard/Zodiac set, but most other unorderables are there). None of my villagers are giving my any new items even though there are some tasks that pretty much guarantee something new. Apparently there are some regular items (Tokonoma, Circle Banner, etc.) that aren't in the NA version naturally for whatever reason.

I don't want to rush through the game and get everything in like five seconds. So I usually only buy stuff from here if people already have them (not ordering from their catalog).

I've mostly traded for regional exclusives that I couldn't otherwise obtain, like EURO/JP/KO DLC and stuff like the tokonoma, Kintaro wig, etc. Still looking for the flashy flower sign though.

I'm still confused as to why those regular items aren't in every region.

Can I derail the conversation for a second? Do you (or anyone) happen to have a full official list of those regular Nooklings/Able Sisters items that aren't available in the NA version? I can't find one. My list seems to be the: Bilboquet, Ceramic Hot Pot, Circle Banner, Diver's Hood, Flashy-Flower Sign, General's Fan, General's Stool, Headkerchief, Hot Plate, Kintaro Wig, Kokeshi Doll, Ogre's Wig, Rice Cooker, Stagehand Hat, Tokonoma, and Topknot Wig, but I'm not sure if I missed anything/added something I can get by myself.

To derail further, I have a lot of those, so if you're missing any, let me check my catalog for them for you.

I also wonder why these items aren't included. Were they considered too culturally specific to include? I dunno.

I'm missing all of them, haha. That's why I asked; I just wanted to make sure that it was the complete list before I started seeking them out. The furniture items I'm pretty sure of, but I'm not positive about the accessories.

And yes. That Rice Cooker is far too culturally-specific. No one in NA eats rice or knows how to cook it.

Ok, enough derailment. Sorry. Back on topic.

What is this rice you speak of? Is this what people who don't eat hot dogs and apple pie every day eat?! Anyway, yeah, back on topic...:P I'll let you know which of those items are in my catalog.

Trading is a good way to get items you usually can't get, like the Japanese DLC items. I prefer trading the unusuals and try to get normal furniture and such myself. Especially the NA DLC's are really cool and since I live in Europe there's only one way to get those and that's by trading! I think it's fun to trade EU -> NA DLC's, it makes the world a little smaller n_n

I'm at a point where I just want to improve my town so I don't care about the "casual" stuff like making money etc. or other restrictions, if I can trade for it easier, I do that.

I prefer getting items myself with things like the fishing tourney prizes, hybrids and royal crown. However I love trading for DLCs and other items I need, so I guess I like both.

I've been finding everything myself but if I happen to see a post of something I want and I am able to buy or trade for it then I would go for it =3

I prefer to get the items myself. I have received a few items and a week later I found them in retail, villager or island had the items.

Thanks for the list on the non NA items. Those were on my list and I've been checking retail daily. Maybe Nintendo will give them to us like the Leaf bed. It does look nice in the Weeding room
