I won’t lie, I hate everything about the crafting system. I don’t feel it belongs in an AC title. I don’t feel it adds anything to the game apart from getting in the way of other activities. I would gladly see it and tool degradation removed from the game entirely (never gonna happen, but a girl can dream). It’s the main reason I haven’t gelled with this title despite my best efforts.

I just wondered if I was alone or over reacting? Do you like the crafting system? Would you change it or remove it from the game? What are your thoughts?

I honestly really like crafting. I like being able to craft furniture to fill up spaces on my island. I like being able to craft 20 mush lamps to put all over my island instead of having to bump a forum post for two weeks trying to buy 20 mush lamps from other people using their preferred currency (tbt especially), which I may not have on hand.

I also love the flower crowns and wreaths and I doubt they’d have been introduced (especially so many types) without crafting.

I understand it’s not everyone’s cup of tea and it definitely isn’t essential to the Animal Crossing experience since this is obviously the first time it has made an appearance :)

I like it and the workbenches, but there needs some changes such as storage for diys. I would like more variations of workbenches like an anvil and forge. We need more storage for mats and diys and just in general. More customization would be nice or at least for the items that had more or different options in HHD and NL. I don’t like how some of the items look now in NH like the school desks and the box of records, the jail bars, etc.

I like the mechanic and what it adds to Animal Crossing - especially in its current setting on an island. I find it more immersive to craft and build up my 'deserted' island. Recipe hunting is fun, and I'm sure we'll see a lot more variety over time. I enjoy the crafting element in other games too (Minecraft, Forager, Stardew Valley, etc.).

It is far from perfect and I agree that it feels as if it gets in the way sometimes, though. I'd like it a lot more if my stored materials were accessible whenever I went to craft, regardless of whether I had them in my pockets or not.

I like the mechanic itself, I don't think it's as bad as some make it out to be, but I do think it needs some quality of life improvements to make it flow better with the chill gameplay. Things like a health gauge for tools, the option for crafting multiple of an item at once, a search option for the DIY app and a way to craft and customize an item at the same time.

When I first saw crafting would be implemented into Animal Crossing, I was honestly turned off. I didn't think it would be good, on top of this, I don't like much change--I wasn't on board with crafting.

Overtime, I grew to love it so much. It's so different and I'm so glad it was put into a mainline game. Now, there are many things that need to be improved, just to make it less tedious for players. But overall, crafting awesome :>

Its decent. Def needs more, but sense its their first time kinda doing it. I have hope they will make it better.
-Deconstructing and getting some materials back
-Being able to craft multiple of the same item at once
I would say those are the big ones I would love to see

I really like crafting items . It does need some changes. It would be nice if you could store extra DIY’s and crafting materials inside of the workbench. This way they wouldn’t take up space in your house storage. I would also have bulk crafting since it is a pain crafting fish bait. It would also be nice to be able to customize all the DIY’s like the mermaid set,

I enjoy it mostly, but i do feel it is tedious sometimes when crafting something like fish bait tho, i think bulk crafting this in particular might help make it less of a grind. The other thing i would change doesnt really have to do with the system itself, but rather the duration of some tools. I wouldnt say you are overreacting for not liking it, it is perfectly fine not to like a mechanic in the game.

I love it. Its one of my favorite parts of the game. When I saw crafting in the game trailer, it’s what made me decide I wanted to play it. It looked so much fun, and for me it is. I’ve actually never been that into animal crossing. The last game I played was City Folk and I didn’t enjoy it very much, so I wasn’t following animal crossing news and didn’t even know about this game until a couple months before release. I enjoy games like Stardew Valley which also has kind of a crafting system, so when I saw that this game would too, it got my interest. This post probably doesn’t make sense, but yeah I love crafting.

I like it, but it could use some revisions.

DIYs are nice because once you have the diy, you can make as many as you have materials for, now or in the future. Pure furniture events (like the wedding event) means you have to stockpile a bunch of furniture you may never use or go without.

Some improvements I'd like to see:

Materials stackable to 50 or 99
A way to store extra diys
A fish bait recipe for 10 bait at a time (and stackable manila clams)
Being able to customize an item immediately after crafting
Being able to buy more than 5 customization kits at a time (bulk is more like 20, considering some things require 7 kits)
A way to store material in the craft table (or used from storage if inside your house)
An unbreakable tool tier (at least for watering can and shovel)

I like the crafting system a lot! I find it a lot more convenient than waiting for catalog furniture. Admittedly, some changes would be welcome (multi craft would be welcome). I’m not so sure about crafting from storage, though: I can’t think of any popular game that allows that (Im sure Minecraft and SV don’t have that capability).

The system definitely needs QoL changes, but I'm an absolute sucker for crafting in games so I love it. I honestly wish more furniture could be crafted/remade rather than having to hunt them down at Nook's or getting variations from others.

I like the addition of crafting. It added more substance to AC, in my opinion. I love collecting DIYs and crafting my own furniture, and even customizing them. Something about building my own stuff feels more gratifying. Sure it could be a pain collecting materials, but it gives me more to do in my game than stare at my island or talk to my villagers.

Since there's always room for improvement, I voted for the second option.

I actually really like crafting a lot! I think it is a great addition to AC and not at all out of place, similar to "farming" (pumpkins). I have a lot of fun making my own furniture and don't mind harvesting materials. I can understand others frustrations with it though, but I personally enjoy it and wouldn't change anything major about it.
