The Bell Tree Fair 2013 Patch
I know that some people on here have more than one version of the game. I was wondering if you could tell me the pros and cons of it?

I've gotten a bit of money for myself from Christmas, and I want to spend it on something that isn't a "necessity" thing, and there's nothing I desperately want right now, so I thought since I do play animal crossing so much, it makes the most sense to get something to do with that. It's also my birthday in exactly 5 weeks (21st!), so I could wait until then to get it too.

So any thoughts on the idea? Or if you could tell me what you've done with a second town? :)

I have two because my boyfriend pre ordered me the physical copy but I couldn't wait so I downloaded the digital copy on release. There aren't any cons besides having to buy the game twice. I use mine for getting holiday items, villager pics, dreamies, easier turnip selling, etc. However it's kinda useless if you only have one 3DS, unless you only want to play just to have another town.

I did think of maybe at a later date getting another 3ds, maybe in a bundle with other games. Or maybe just the new 2ds.

Actually that's another question I have, what are the pros and cons to having more than one console? Is it worth it? It does seem like you'd have to get one if you want another version of the game...

I like having two. If I have Katie or need to do petitions, I don't have to look for help online. Of course, it kind of feels like cheating. But, I like to travel between the towns if I need to exchange things with myself or whatever. I like having two versions of the game as well. I thought the second town would just be a holding tank for animals, but I love my new town. It doesn't take a backseat in any regard except my house, which I have been reluctant to spend money upgrading.

Honestly, I wouldn't be worried about it being "cheating" since you can NOT cheat at Animal Crossing. Maybe in previous games since people could hack, but in general it is impossible since Animal Crossing is a "play how you want" type of game. There's not really any such thing as cheating if you aren't hacking. Just do what you want, that's what it's all about. I wouldn't buy a separate 3DS just to play another Animal Crossing game though; my second one I came across by chance haha I would never pay for another one. Or if I did it would be a 2DS. If you have a really good reason to get another one then I guess it's worth it, but just for Animal Crossing it isn't worth it at all. I like having two but I wouldn't want to pay for it, that's probably the only con :) I use mine for Katie and petitions as well. I want to start getting more involved in my second town but it feels like soo much work to run two.

I love New Leaf so much I liked paying for it more than once. It's like I already got more than my money for it, LOL. I've never played a game as much as this. I'm at 100 hours in my second town alone!

The only reason I see Katie and petitions with myself as cheating is because I know the point of those is to get people playing with new people. I think about asking for help then think, nahhhhh. I got this other 3DS right here. :)

No, but my mum has a copy so its easy to trade things now
I was going to buy one.. but she got it a few days ago so all is fine now :D

Is there a way to get around doing certain things between two towns, with only one console? For instance, could you use a "middle man" to trade things from one to the other? Or if I got a villager I really liked in the second town that I wanted in my main, could I let someone else take them (perhaps into their cycle town) and then when they are going to move from there, I could get them into my main?

Also, if I bought another game now, and started playing it on my current 3DS XL, would the town stay the same if I moved it to a new console if I bought one in a few months? Or would the new console reset the game? Or something like that?

To be honest, I'm not sure if I want a new game for a cycle town or anything, or for signatures or Katie, because you can do that with other people on this forum. I mostly just want to make a new town. Maybe one I'm not so serious about getting perfect, so I could reset a few times to have a go with different maps.

It would stay the same. If you have the digital download, you have to do a system transfer. If it's on a cartridge, I think you can just put it in the new 3DS and go.

I used to, until I gave my second 3DS to my best friend and my digital copy was on there, I also told her not to delete it so I could play with it whenever I went to visit her in HK. Other than streepassing or cycling its not that interesting.

I got a digital copy at launch (because I didn't want to wait a few hours to go out and get a new copy after waiting almost ten year pshh)
but at the moment I have a physical copy cause I borrowed it from a friend after he stopped playing.

I agree that it's sort of useless to get another copy unless you have another 3DS, (I was planning to get the new Zelda bundle but I'm holding out in case the gorgeous orange XL comes to NA. Pls.) as you can't really do stuff between them (which is the biggest reason for having another game)

I'm just about to finish ordering a second copy now. I might get another console at a later date, but I think if I don't order the game now, I'll just hold onto this Christmas money and not spend it for months and months for fear of letting go of it!

And there we go, bought it!

I think I'm ok with buying it now, and not when I have another console, because I mostly just want it to make another town with a different style to the one I'm planning for my current town. And when I get another console in a few months maybe, I can start doing all the stuff you can then do with two. :)

I'm too busy with one copy, I'd never be able to handle a second.

Though I have thought about it before. I was planning on buying a second copy and doing a horror town for a while. But I know I'll never have enough time for that

I kinda want a second copy to reset to my hearts content and tt ahead and just generally.. yeah. So i'mma try and get a second hand copy. Cheaper

edit: And I have 2 consoles - a plain old 3DS and my new XL so I can still do trades. It'd work out fine ;)

I only have one version, so I don't know that many. Here's what I can say, though.
Pros:
If a villager you like moves out, you can hold them in the second town
If you wanna cycle, it's good
More storage for the overwhelming amount of items possibly hoarded
Streetpassing yourself

Cons:
Have to balance time between the two
I can't think of anything else, my brain is dying.

I have 5.

Not gonna go into the pros and cons because the only con I have is that I occasionally forget what town has what.

I have two games, I'd say the only annoying thing is that you have to keep changing...

Apart from that it's quite useful as you can always have stuff to do and can never get bored!

Wow 5! Do you develop them all? I mean, do you decorate all of your towns or just use one or two for storage/cycling?

But if that's one of the only annoying things, it's quite a small thing, so that's good! :)

Yeah I was thinking with my second copy I might just spend the first week or so resetting to see lots of different maps, and maybe TT in an extreme way that I'd never risk in my main town. :)

Then I'd settle with one town, for the time being.
