I finished my campsite the day after I got my town development permit, but a villager rarely shows up. I've had the game for a year now and I've gotten a total of 6 campers in al that times. Do you guys ever get anyone in yours? And if you do, are they the good Villagers?

Yeah, maybe once a week or every other week. It depends. A lot of the time I get some nice villagers but none I'd particularly like in my town. Though, two of my dreamies did come from the campsite. It's a good addition to NL, but I always seemed to get the REALLY cool villagers once I'd filled up my dream town so they were just kinda...there.
Ah, I see what you mean. The campsite really isn't helpful then, huh? I meant the Villagers that most people like. For example, most people like Goldie, but she's not Tier 1 or 2.
Sadly, its 100% random. As already mentioned, some weeks you could have multiple visits some weeks you may have none.
You also have to remember that the probability of one specific villager showing up is 1/333 on the days that you do have a camper, since there are 333 characters total and which character shows up is also random. The game doesn't recognize which characters are 'good', and if it did, I doubt it'd make them more probable to show up (although that'd be cool). It's also subjective as to which characters are 'good'.
I've gotten lucky with my campsite before though. I got Francine from my campsite, and have had visits from a few other popular characters. ^^

There are some days when I get villagers 2-3 times a week and other times when it's completely vacant! It's random. My friend said that she had a camper two days in a row but it's never happened to me because the tent disappears after 6am. I always get really excited whenever the tent is set up. I've never adopted anyone into my main town through the campsite but I have in my cycle towns when I was TTing. I've had Flurry, Marshal and Lucky and I was so sad I was at 10 because I would have loved to move them in!
It's nice if you're at 8 or 9 villagers but always a bit sad when you're at 10 and you see a dreamie in there because some loser won't move out (Cobb, I'm talking to you) I think it's a really nice touch to the game though! I wish there could always be campers in there haha

Since I found out that you can make lots of bells from lazy campers, I've become much more interested in having a camper. I've probably had 3 in the last month, but I had a long dry spell before then. I'm currently hoping to get someone good to fill my 10th spot.
Either once a week or one day before an expected new neighbor is suppost arrive.
