Do villagers ever catch fish or bug successfully?

Hey have you ever seen a villager successfully catch a bug or fish? Or how about getting an item by shaking trees?

It's Bug Off day in my town, and my villagers are all trying to catch bugs but they suck at it. For instance there was a mantis just sitting still on a flower, and Muffy was in the sneak position, and then she swung net and missed! And Axel was sneaking trying to catch a butterfly but can't seem to get it......

I've never actually seen them catch any I just see them fishing or carrying a net and just walk around xD

I haven't seen them catch anything too, maybe only in fishing tourneys?

No, they do not ever catch anything. Same for insects, they just chase them endlessly until they fly off.

I don't think so as I've never seen them actually catch them and from what I've read above it looks like they don't

I have only seen one instance where a villager tried to catch a bug. That was the Bug-Off, and it wasn't successful.

Today, Rolf was sneaking on a butterfly resting on a flower, but he basically stepped on it and the butterfly flew off. Nice try Rolf.

No, I do not think we can actually watch villagers catching things. I like to cheer for them regardless when they make an attempt.
