Do Villagers display fossils in their houses?

Hi guys, the fossil selection of my museum is complete, so gifting fossils would be very convenient for me (I still collect them everyday, because I'm a clean freak lol)
I'm just worried about ruining Villager houses. Can anyone confirm that they don't display them?

I understand it's safer with bigger fossils, however I'm concerned that they may display the smaller fossils.

I actually made a thread asking the same question a few months ago, and people said that they don't display the larger ones from their experiences, but they probably display the smaller ones. One person said they have never seen their villager display anything larger than 2x1, which makes sense since villagers also won't display large fish (like sharks).

edit: if you give me one of your extra 1x1 fossils I would gladly try it out with one of my villagers because a small fossil would actually look good in his house!

From my experience, no. I don't believe they display any, even small ones.

HOWEVER. Each villager has an "inventory" of furniture. My understanding is that inventory fills up EVEN WITH FURNITURE THEY DON'T DISPLAY. As it gets fuller, they may start removing items from their house to make room for new stuff, again, even if they don't display it. So, if you're planning to gift a lot, I would suggest NOT gifting fossils. From my experience, exotic fruit works best for gifts.
