Do villagers box on date given to move or day before?

I have done this a few times and moved out many into boxes but thought I would check. As I had one tell me they were leaving on a specific day and I checked with a new character and they boxed day before that with no tt on my part. I think that was an accident.
So Pekoe is leaving so I can get a peppy in Cheri I hope for this town and she said the 31st so that means boxes that day correct?

I always TT to 2 days before and then proceed, jic (it's saved me a few times), but I believe they're in boxes the day they say!

When a villager tells you that they're leaving on a certain day, that will be the day that they are in boxes c:

The actual date of leaving is when they have packed up all of their belongings and are saying farewell (this can be defined as the actual action of leaving).

Yep, in my experience they've always been in boxes on the day they said they are moving, this is when their moving becomes irreversible in the eyes of the game, giving you time to say goodbye ^.^
