I'm starting a cycling town, I have my 9 villagers and I'm waiting for one to go in boxes so I can start cycling. Do I just wait for someone to ping or do I need to talk to each villager
Nope, you don't need to talk to them, just walk in front of them.
In fact, I don't think you even have to do that. Unless there's a villager you want to keep, they can just move out without telling you.
You can TT really recklessly when cycling villagers since you're not keeping anyone. You should look up some cycling strategies, there are a few patterns people use that get you a move out every 5min or so. And these strategies barely require you to log into your game so no speaking to villagers is required.
Well if you talk to them they can ping you, is you don't they will just leave without saying anything. It depends if you have a villager you're keeping or selling. But you don't have to talk to them at all if you don't want to
If you talk to villager while cycling villagers can change clothing or the house. If you are cycling to do the 16villager cycle to get a villager that you lost. Then I think you should talk to each villager. So they don't move out.
When I cycled, I never talked to my villagers nor did I even introduce myself to them. They just moved out.
If you are "stuck", it may be that you haven't played the game enough. For myself, villagers would not move out until I unlocked the island. I believe some other cyclers have posted you don't even need to play to that point, but just reach an earlier milestone, but basically, they won't budge until you've sort of established your town a bit, if that makes sense.
