So I have been chaining for this Shiny Ponyta with the DexNav, and I'm positive that I have gone over 200 chains and still searching. Is this normal? Please let me know! Thank you! :)

Yes its normal, you just need to keep on going and it will appear eventually.

T

Why are you saying sorry lol? I actually really appreciate the comment because if I was still searching, this comment would've made me keep going ^^

I think they're saying sorry because they feel bad that it took you so long to get it ;)

Dang, good job getting it to 300+!
I'm having the hardest time getting passed a chain of 8...

Has there ever been legitimate proof that Dex Nav Chaining actually increases the luck of finding a shiny Pok?mon? I don't think there has.

Lol! You'll get there though!

I think so... Well I don't know. But apparently some people have had a lot of luck with it. Some get their shiny like at 40-60 chains. Others it takes a while longer. So I truly don't know, but I don't think it's a fluke when you get a shiny after 300-something chains or less, so I believe it helps. :)

Once you hit 40, don't enter any more grass. Just keep Nav resetting until it's shiny grass.
Everyone I know that collects shinies use this method, and it works every time.
I guess the game forces a shiny to generate at 40. Was able to get a shiny Roselia this way last night!

Well, I can't say if this is 100% true, but some guys who tested DexNav chaining, seem to have come to the conclusion that DexNav has no chaining system but instead increases the shiny rate in general.

Hey all! Here is the TL;DR of the data from the doc linked above:
TL;DR -- The DexNav does not use a chaining system to increase shiny chance the way the PokeRadar did. Instead, it seems to just increase the shiny encounter rate generally, like the XY Friend Safari did. The DexNav search shiny encounter rate this data suggests is 1/308, but that rate is probably too high.
If you want to know how this was determined, read the doc in the original post!
EDIT: Just to make a couple of big things a little clearer:
The data shows that chain length DOES NOT matter -- it's a misnomer to call this "chaining" at all.
The data shows that search level DOES NOT matter, either.
The only thing that matters is using DexNav search in the first place, because it increases your shiny chance in general (the same way the Friend Safari does in XY).

I think you're thinking Pokeradar there. There's no way of defining shiny grass with the DexNav as far as I can tell.

But from what I've heard, it increases the odds in general, like Vida posted.
