For me, it is. I was able to afford it and I've enjoyed being able to have the flexibility. I wanted to have an island in each hemisphere, and that's been fun to have.

Hmm thats interesting. My island is in the Northern Hemisphere and I did hear the Sothern Hemisphere is different. Well the reason I choose the North one was because I live in North America which makes sense. I assume in the South its a lot more different because of different timezones and seasons on how things are celebrated.

Ive seen a lot of your posts about not being completely happy with the game and I do not believe getting a second switch and island will fix that sadly.. Its the same game in the end.

Is there any specific reason why you want to start fresh?

When you have cherry blossom season in the southern hemisphere, there's no Bunny Day, lol. There is Halloween, but Halloween is less intrusive.

I will explain to my best. The reason why is because on my main island I have done everything there is to do in the game. I had a lot of thoughts on Restarting the island, but then I looked at what would you lose when doing that and I just think to myself "well I don't want to lose everything. Granted I have gotten a lot of items, learned a lot of DIYS, and gotten all of the villagers I wanted, but then its like I want to keep the island and keep everything I want, while at the same thing still having a new island.

It really bothers me because its like I know when you restart you lose everything and I know you can ask for a friend to hold onto to your stuff for you when you restart, but I just think that is just too time consuming and too much of a headache to do. So thats the whole reason I'm asking about getting a 2nd switch at this point, but I know its expensive and I really am not sure if spending another $299 is even worth it because that was the price when I first got my main Switch back in 2019.

I see. Well thats interesting.

Same for me. I love having an island in each hemisphere. I went back and forth a lot before getting my second switch and island. I like being able to keep a villager longer by having them move to my second island. I also wanted to try a different layout then my first island:

Getting a second Switch is worth it if :
-You can afford it
-You truly enjoy playing the game
-You have more ideas that you didn't or couldn't implement on your first island.

If cost is an issue,a Switch Lite is about $100 less than a regular Switch.
Hmm I looked on Amazon and I couldn't find one that cost less than 100

I meant that a Switch Lite costs $199 which is $100 less than a regular Switch.
Ehh...still too high. Maybe I would wait by December 2021 where usually they do a holiday sale and if Nintendo still hasn't release the feature to make a 2nd island on one switch, then I might as well get the Switch Lite. We'll see what happens its hard to predict the future.

I don't have a second switch so I cannot comment on any experiences that may give you a better insight but I think ultimately it depends on your reasons for wanting to start afresh. I know you mentioned earlier you don't want to lose everything but whether you reset or have an entirely separate island you have to build yourself back up from the beginning, the only difference is that if you get a second switch you still have your other island to fall back on if you miss having everything unlocked. It also depends if you'll have the energy to maintain two islands at once!
thinking back to NL I had multiple towns and loved that because it meant I could do different things on each, so if you think you have enough passion for the game and enough ideas to make another island flourish (and you can financially afford to do so) then I'd say go for it!

So I know we talked a little bit already about this on the thread that I made about setting up two Switches, and I've had my second Switch for a couple days now and I can honestly say already it was worth it for me to buy a second Switch. I was feeling the same way as you about my first island, I felt like I didn't have much to do anymore but I didn't want to restart because I've put so much time and effort in to it. Starting a second island has actually made me appreciate my first island even more; I have loved the process of starting over and choosing a new island layout and unlocking everything, but I have also been playing more on my main island since getting a second Switch and my second island has inspired me to update and improve things on my main island. Overall I'm really happy that I got a second Switch, and especially happy that I did not restart my island.

All that being said, I did get an extremely good deal on my second Switch because my friend sold it to me with some games I didn't already own for super cheap, so it's hard to say if it would be worth it to me had I paid $300+... if you can find someone selling a used Switch for below retail, I would recommend that.

Personally when I was wanting a second Switch before I knew my friend was trying to sell his, I was planning on waiting until the new Switch model comes out (Switch Pro? I'm not sure if that's what it's actually called) because I know I'll be buying that and would definitely keep my AC Switch, so then I could have two islands that way. So if you were thinking of getting the new Switch model, maybe waiting until that comes out could be a good idea, to make the price a bit more justifiable?

Well unlike you my main island is done and its pretty much complete so I don't feel the need to restart or do anything on that island. It will still be there as like a special one because it was the island I started out with on day one when the game first game out.

Having a 2nd island to go in with new ideas, a fresh mindset is the only way I can see myself actually having more fun with the game. I can use my main island to see if I can send items to my 2nd island on the 2nd switch, of course that could be time consuming but it can help me out.

I'll think about it when I have enough money and if the Switch is at a reasonable price I can afford it, but of course I would have to see what Nintendo would do because they could at some point release a feature that will allow you to make another island on the same Switch. Its hard to predict the future. Thank you for your feedback and advice.

As someone who barely touches their second island I would vote no. I've restarted it a couple times but it just doesn't have the same magic as my main.

I bought my Switch Lite for travel reasons (in the year or so before COVID-19 swept the globe I literally only went to home to sleep, do laundry, sometimes eat, and get ready for work) so it wasn't a waste of money by any means, but it would've been if I had bought it solely for the purpose of having a second ACNH island.

Well that sounds pretty good, I just want to make sure I don't spend out all of money one time otherwise I will be broke. Usually for me I tend to wait for a sale price and when I see a reasonable price I can go for it. Of course the thing that holds me back is if Nintendo came out of nowhwere and just release the feature to make another island on the same switch. That could come at the worst timing.

I'll think about it when the time does come but at the moment I am just holding off until December 2021 so I can see what really happens. If by now if they don't do it I will just say "screw it" and buy the 2nd switch at a more reasonable price.

If you would trade between the islands then I say just flatten your island
No point buying a new one if you're not going to play it like a completely new save file.

I bought a second switch so I could have a second island, and for me it was worth it. I wanted to make an island with a haunted/dark theme, which wouldn’t fit on my my main island. I also love the beginning of the game and really wanted to play through it again without resetting my main island.

the only downside is that I get a little overwhelmed on holidays because I want to play them on both islands and with all of my 5 characters. If you only have 1 character on your second island then it might be easier to manage.

Thats a good point. I have 8 users on my main island and to be honest as much as I liked the idea of making a lot of homes it became overwhelming when having to worry about 8 homes having like roaches inside, not mention checking their mail. So if I just had a 2nd island with one user only it would be not so stressful to handle.

So yeah I have an idea of what I want to do for my 2nd island and I will approach it differently than I did with my old island which is still going to be around. I appreciate the feedback.

i'm corny but i think there is something cathartic about working really hard on something intangible like an animal crossing island and then letting it go. i reset my island after "finishing" (getting all the DIYs, making it all nice) and started fresh. the 500 hours i put into that island gave me a lot of joy, but i no longer felt the urge to play it, and wanted to re-experience it. i get anxious if i'm too precious about my ac island. it was the time spent that was fun, not the finished product.

if you can afford a second switch and feel that there is value in preserving your first island, go for it. i like animal crossings replay value. i'm going slower on DIYs and other things in my second run and i feel less keyed up about getting everything done. how you play the game is up to you!
