I like to use holes in order to guide where my houses would be! I dig them behind houses in a line

The houses are of a specific size that I can't remember but I believe people have been setting guides on the grounds to help them. Perhaps like digging holes or something that are a good indicator of where a 1x1 spot is to help.

Plan where you're going to place them by laying paths on the ground (count the tiles the houses use by diging holes around them)

I put down paths to mark the spaces. The paths disappear when the house is placed on top of them (no idea if is this true for custom designs)
