There is a twitter account that did a data mine in April. They suggest two stand alone buildings coming? Brewster's Cafe and a Museum Shop.
My question is what would the Museum Shop have/be?
I also find it odd that the Museum Shop would be outside of the Museum, but I am not sure where they would necessarily incorporate it in the main area of the Museum.

My guess is, if it's still coming, it's like the museum shop in new leaf. Museum themed items... Maybe galleries for us to display our own collections. I struggle to imagine it as a separate building, but I also don't know where it'd go in the current museum.

What do you mean by "our own collections"? Like models of creatures?

In NL, there were 4 empty rooms in the museum you could decorate however you wanted, just like rooms in your house. Most people used it to display gyroids/pictures/Nintendo items, but you could do anything with them, and they were meant to be extra "exhibits" in the museum.

Yeah I was thinking about this!! This can actually have a lot of possibilities, I imagine people would do things with the diner series or arcades, maybe hospitals... but I also think it's rather odd they decide to bring back this feature.

I imagine they'd keep it fairly similar to the one in New Leaf. I could see silver tools making a return as well, along with silver nuggets. Meet certain requirements and the DIY recipe could be sold randomly in the shop, etc.

I heard that we were getting new buildings and hoped the roost was one of them but I didn't expect the museum giftshop to be another one. While that's great I feel like it could have easily been squeezed into the museum (maybe on another floor?) and we could have instead gotten a new building in the series, if not one of the more interesting buildings from previous games

I have a theory that "museum shop" was just a way of programming Redd's boat which is a "shop" full of stuff to go into the "museum". I mean, it could mean a gift shop or something, but I doubt it.

Good thought, but Redd's shop had it's own name in the code, which is how we knew he was coming! It was his japanese name, if I recall correctly.

That's cool to know! I do feel like it is something that would have popped up by now, but I could be completely wrong. Maybe there is a chance to get a proper museum shop with something fun in the future!

I remember somebody bringing this up ages and ages ago, and I've clung to this particular idea: the museum gift shop might sell or allow you to craft fossil model miniatures! Like how in New leaf Cyrus would make them for you at re-tail
