I have a feeling this is gonna be the least viewed thread on the forum. Oh well, more room for us, Sway.
I'm going to go ahead and say this up here:
Drakengard, or Drag-on Dragoon as it's known in Japan is an extremely obscure game series that is known for pushing the boundaries of what is actually acceptable in gaming media. It's got something of a cult following these days, ironic, all things considered.
The first and second games were PS2 games, and while they featured gameplay weaknesses (especially the first game) they were extremely strong in story. The game's apocalyptic themes were based off of 9/11 as a base point as Yoko Taro has recently stated in an interview. After talking to the guy myself, it's hard to believe that something so demented could come from him. He really is one of the sweetest people I've ever had the pleasure of speaking with.
Nier, also in the DOD franchise is a more recent title for the PS3, and while yes it does suffer the typical gameplay fallbacks that DOD/DOD2 failed in, it was indefinitely more fun and hurt a lot worse as far as story goes. Papa Nier always gets the feels rollin.
So around last year, Drakengard 3 was announced. They've dropped the whole DOD thing. Thank god. I asked Yoko Taro about it on facebook but I CBA to go find the post. It looks really good and has been getting nothing but high ratings so far. I'll try and keep spoilers to a minimum, but man it really sets some good plot basis for everything awful that happened in DOD.
The game explains the basis of the cult of the watchers, and oh my god. Yoko has a gift for flipping stuff around. Jerk.
Anywho, discuss.
I'm going to go ahead and say this up here:
Drakengard features content that is NOT appropriate for minors that WILL probably be referenced in text. If you're unable to handle it, going to be a prat about it, or not contribute at all to information or thread flow then you should not be here.
