I need your help.
My 3DS is sitting idle most of the time, but I'm too cheap to get games that I only get a limited amount of time out of.

AC:NL seems to be a perfect fit in terms of time.
I have 40 minutes on bus each day (20 x 2 minutes9 and this game seems to be best played in short burts, right?

Now I need your help to convince me to get this game.

First off (of?), how much is there to do?
Is there something, like an event that I haved missed that will never return?

So basically:
1. Will this game last in terms of what you can do that actually gives you stuff, and
2. Is there any guide on stuff that you should do every day?

It's got as much to do as you can think of doing. That's it, really; it's an open-ended game and once you've done the basic stuff like upgrade your Main Street and pay off your house there really aren't a lot of goals except the ones you come up with yourself. Examples: getting a particular set of ten villagers, collecting every item, completing the museum collection, building a town themed around a concept, breeding difficult-to-get hybrid flowers to decorate your town, designing paths with an ingame pixel editor so you can lay them out in the town, designing custom clothes with said pixel editor, making your house themed around something... If you don't like this sort of inventive play you'll get bored of Animal Crossing because it doesn't give you a lot to do on its own account.

What you have missed is DLC items, but honestly they're mostly underwhelming and all of them can be acquired from TBT users via the trading boards.

I play ACNL on the bus! It's a really convenient time to play it, if I can get a seat :)

I absolutely love this game. It's kind of hard to explain why, but there's something special about games that let you take care of others in your own special way. Or not take care of others. Or catch all the fish. Or make millions of bells. It really wants you to just play however you'd like to play. I think different people like it for different reasons, and that's why so many people like it. It invites you to play differently. And it's a game that's still fun in the long haul. Ever since I've started Animal Crossing, I'll pick it up and put it down every few years/months/hours :) Every time I go back, it's different, but I still remember why I love the game.

You could try it, and if you absolutely dislike it, you could still sell it online somewhere.

Yeah, "badges". Tons of those for pretty much everything you do in the game.

YES, this is what I wanted to hear.
Can you keep track of them somehow?
Are they hidden?

How many hours to get them all?
Do they release new ones?

You can't see your progress, but once you've done it, a character will appear in your town and give a badge to you. From then on out , you can see the badge on the back of your character card.

Not sure about that, as I still don't even have that many of them. But I'm sure it would take a while.
They do not release new ones.

You can find a list of them online. I know for one you need to play the game for 500 hours. But I have no idea how many hours it would take to complete them all. I'm still working on unlocking the first level of all of them.

And no, they don't release new ones.

I have been playing ACNL everyday since June 9th 2013 (haven't missed a single day) and still haven't gotten all of the badges (there are 3 levels for each badge). Some days, I only have 30 minutes to play, other days, I might spend several hours playing.
I would think that if you found this fourm, you are really interested in getting/playing this game... So go for it.

Not really. It's enough to do the bare minimum in small steps a day if that's good enough for you.

At least 500 hours if going for gold, that's the requirement for the golden badge of playing a lot. If you don't time travel, then it's longer not because you're not playing but because some bugs and fish only shows up on specific seasons. If you can play online to visit someone who time travels, that can really help.

you should get it. It's perfect for people who only want to play for a little while each day. I really enjoy it that way.
