Honestly, I absolutely love club tortimer. you run into a few jerks every once in a while but I actually love it. But it's at the point where not many people go on it anymore. I only have the option to pick my country and and well nobody plays past 12am. I want to go international but every time I do, I always end up with someone who doesn't speak English and like I'm confused, they're confused. It's just not a good time. Anyone else have this problem?

Yeah, I stopped going to CT myself. Usually I'm on my own, or with someone AFK. I'm intimidated by international island, since I don't want to somehow upset anyone...

Yeah.. I sometimes go there and this one French girl got mad that I couldn't speak french so she cut down all of the trees. I left as soon as I could lol

I actually like internationals, although we don't understand each other I think it's fascinating to play with people on the other side of the world. I don't play much of ACNL anymore, but I was on international all the time when I did.

I stopped going to the international island because I almost always meet a Japanese person and it's always difficult to communicate with them since we don't have the option to type in Japanese. The only time I successfully communicated with a Japanese person on the island was when they were asking me questions and I just used Shrunk's jokes as a yes/no.

I love Club Tortimer. I don't really do international islands anymore. The Japanese players are usually a lot more pleasant than the North American ones though.

Whenever I select my country only, there's no-one else there (it's not that big over here), and whenever I go to Interational Island there's usually a Japanese 10 year old girl who spends the whole time pestering me about why I don't speak or study Japanese. I've never had a "good" conversation with someone that's not "do you like music?" "yes."

Can't win :/

Someone once tried to teach me French. I was having fun. I've come across a few Germans and tried speaking with them. Most of them were kids, though.

I find this amusing because I go to Australian only islands almost every night after 12am. Now and then I do run into people. I try to avoid International islands simply because of all the awkward moments.

I really only go to the international island for the items. But whenever I go to CT with just nu country (the Netherlands) there's never anyone there...

I go to the Australian only islands literally every night after 12am and i'm aways there by myself.

Definitely yes! Once I mey a Japanese guy and instarted saying hello and even said kunichiwa. I asked if he can speak english and he talked very little of it. Then started typing in Japanese so I wondered what he was saying :(
I don't like people talking to me when I don't understand them it make me feel uncomfortable for some reason.
I've met some people in it that are nice too. But since the incident the other day I don't think I will ever trust anyone from CT again.

I love playing on the international island. I've met some wonderful Japanese people who were so kind and generous. The majority of rude people I've found are actually in my own region. Language is a difficulty sometimes but I tend to have google translate out on my phone and that can get round most of it. Usually they know a little English anyway, I've not had massive communication problems

I love club tortimer. I was there all the time before I discovered this forum. I barely go now to play even though I enjoy the island tours. If I do go, it's to look for items. I've had so many terrible experiences on ct. Good ones too but the bad outweigh the good.
Unlike everyone else, I've had bad experiences with Japanese players on the international island. Apart from it being akward, I've tried to communicate (with shrunk gestures too) but we just don't vibe and a couple of times they trolled me and kept me prisoner. Also, I don't have an old ds so I can't flip the switch to save myself. On the other hand, a UK player was super nice to me and gave me bells randomly! And on my country server, I've met a few good people but it's usually little kids and trolls.. again, no switch. :/

NeonxVandal - I have an original 3dsxl & an new one - haven't taken out CT membership with the new one - cos of this problem with no wifi switch. But I don't like going to CT anyway.

But to this issue of no wifi switch - the only recommendation I see from other players is to power off the 3ds unit - and I personally don't want to do this - you are booted off the game (albeit you don't lose anything prior to going to the island as the game saves before you go) but its still annoying and time consuming. I don't think it does the 3ds it self any good at all. Might not harm it but really... its not what I want to do.

Edit: I have an original 3ds as well, bought at launch, came with a very thick manual (its a lot shorter now) and in there I can remember reading it is not advisable to keep powering off the 3ds unit. Its a long manual to trawl through to try and find it.
Might not be logical but my gut says, not a good idea to continually power off the 3ds while still within a game.

An alternative I would try - but I always get shot down over it and I don't really understand why - either move out of the router's range so you lose connection or turn the router off.

I've been told I shouldn't do this because:
1. What about other people in your household using the wifi at the same time - yes OK I get that, but for me personally I am the only one on, so I could turn it off without issue.
2. I can't just walk away from the router: Yes I can - its at the front of the house - if I walk to my back door, I'll be off it, tested it, one brick wall between rooms is enough. (despite it being a BT one and the ads about their strong connection!)
3. You will hurt your router, by turning it off -
BT engineers on the line mean I lose connection sometimes and I turn the router off when not on PC (quite a few times daily) and this is only the 2nd router in over 10 years (& only had to change that as we had to change ISP, plus technology moves on).

I would rather turn the router off than powering off the 3ds unit. Personal choice, And in the end I haven't done anything as I don't connect the new 3ds xl to CT islands.
Another edit: I understand that some players might not be able to abuse their router this way, but it is an alternative method that could be used by some players.

It's not nearly as fast as the wi-fi switch, but you can press the power button once, then press the home button to be taken back to the home menu. This method won't completely turn the 3DS off.

I used to go on my own country's Club Tortimer all the time back in the day, before I started trading friend codes with people, because it was my only way with playing with others. In fact, it was the only reason I played the game. Later on I started trading friend codes with people on the island. I don't go on as much as I used to due to some towns having their gates open sometimes thanks to the large amount of people on my friend list, but I still go to the American island somewhat often. I rarely go on the international island. Usually it's a last resort for when nobody is on the American island.

I go to the Dutch island when I want to fish/bug hunt in peace, as an alternative to my own island. I've NEVER seen anyone there. Consider yourself lucky to even come across people during the day.
