Club Tortimer Hacking/Glitch

I have by far had the strangest experience ever while visiting club tortimer just now. I was visiting to purchase a striped wetsuit. There were two other players that I could see. I bought the item, went to leave, and got the scene of kapp'n taking me back on his boat as normal. However, rather than returning to my own town, I returned to...the island? I didn't think much of it and tried to leave again, only this time I couldn't speak to the lady who would let me leave. Suddenly, I'm pulled into a scene where kapp'n is taking me back on his boat...again...only to be returned to the island...again. This happened over and over a few times without me ever having a chance to speak to an npc. At one point, I did return to my docks...with the other two players. One of them walked away into my town, and the other passed out on the boat where kapp'n was (in the same manner you pass out if you get bit by a tarantula or scorpion). Suddenly, another boat loading screen with kapp'n and I'm back on the island again. At this point, someone hit the wi-fi switch and I was officially returned to my island, minus all of my items and tools =( Tried switching the game off entirely to see if that would restore them, but they are all gone...

Anyone have any idea of what just happened? Was it a weird glitch, or do you think of one those players were hacking? Thankfully I am only on day 5 of my town so I didn't have anything too valuable...though I am not entirely sure how I am going to get another watering can. I am quite curious if anyone can offer some insight to my situation though!

Doesn't seem quite as similar but I had no idea that hacking on club tortimer was such a common thing! I felt a bit scared experiencing all that, worrying if my save file would go corrupt and I'd lose my entire town. Things seem okay for now...but I do wish hackers wouldn't involve people who aren't interested in being dragged into these experiences. Thankfully I was able to find another club tortimer island with the striped wetsuit and returned home safely this time, so I have no reason to go back anymore. I'll be staying safe in my own town and private island from now on >.<
 
From reading all these threads, I'm starting to believe there is an exploit going on causing this error to occur.
 
I think it is safe to say that this type of hacking (I'm assuming it's a hack) is safe as no one has reported a corrupted save file after experiencing it.

I'm curious for those who have:
How many people were at the island? Reports say 2 were taken to your town afterwards, so if there was a 3rd, either the 3rd was the hacker or one of the two were hackers, unless both didn't know what was going on either, then I'm assuming the 3rd was the hacker.

I can certainly clarify that at least one of the others were just as confused as me, because she managed to get a message out that was something like "sorry, my game was glitching". Which ended up popping up multiple times as we were pulled around in this strange boat to island to boat to island loop

The island was full for me. 4 including me.
 
a lot of people are getting this. i really am not sure what causes it to happen, but it may be a glitch while someone is hacking, or a purposely-done hack.

i would say that, if this happens again, hit the wifi switch or power button IMMEDIATELY. before they can warp you into your town. then, you won't loose your tools in your town pockets.

(the way they warped you caused kapp'ns dialog of him returning your tools to never happen, and your game saved again when the cutscene of kapp'n continued to happen, which made you loose them permanently).
 
Thank you so much for your replies/input everyone. I must admit I was quite shaken up yesterday when it happened. I had never experienced such a thing before and didn't know it was possible to effect other people's gameplay outside of the hackers own town. It makes me feel so much better to know that this is more of a common occurrence and despite losing all of my tools, no harm was done in the end.
 
Id have people putting pwps and trees on the island before and even someone going to their town and talking to kappn...one even used a stopwatch on the island lol
