My old geography teacher used to tell us that China will steal our jobs, since there are like 5 of them for every one of us. o.o

That ain't good... Jk

I'm partially Chinese, just so everybody knows.

Hmmm. Yeah, I wouldn't be suprised if China surpassed the US as the major world economic power within a few decades.

Imagine what China could accomplish if it renounced Communism. Or, do you think that it is Communism that is allowing China to become powerful?

Discuss.

Woa! Slow down. China is a DYING country. Overpopulation is slowly swalloing them whole, They have no food, and, wait for it. Ther are 6 men for every Women! And they are not allowed to have girls except for special exceptions. So No, China will not take over the world.

They are allowed to have girls. Parents choose to keep sons because they are going to succeed more in life. (In their economy. Not being sexist here. >.>)

A few decades? Hah, the rate things are going at the moment, things might be going down sooner than you think.

Trust me, Marx would be spinning in his grave at the sight of the 'communism' that the PRC practices. The PRC nowadays simply cannot be called a communist state. It adheres to the communist ideology far less than the Soviet Union and Warsaw Pact countries did... if at all. I mean, it's a massive market economy, for god's sake!

I don't doubt that certain elements of society in the PRC are a little short on food. But was that any different at any point earlier in history? No.

China=Poverty
Depends where you look. There are massive gaps in wealth between the large cities and the more rural areas. Considering HK is now a part of the PRC, the idea that the entire of the PRC is plunged in the depths of poverty is nothing short of stupid-- HK is one of the world's leading financial centres and incredibly wealthy.

Remember in 2001 when Bush sold all those arms to Taiwan, and then said he'd use whatever military action it took to defend Taiwan in the event that China tried to take control back by force?

I wonder if the offer still stands. Because, I mean, if everyone starts blowing the crap out of each other, then who knows what will be the most powerful country?

I doubt that the PRC would seriously attempt to invade the ROC even despite their continued assertion that Taiwan is a rebel province. As far as I remember, the ROC maintains a formidable army. Nonetheless, in the event of that situation coming up, I can only imagine the casualties would be great on either side.

And then Belgium would establish itself as the new superpower. Yay Belgium! :3

But I'm reading an interesting article in the latest issue of Time about "A Sort of Peace in Gaza"

Here is part of it.

On patrol in Shijaiyah, the toughest neighborhood in Gaza City, Lieut, Naim Ashraf Mushtaha, 31, an officer of the Hamas Executive Force, sports a man in civilian clothes carrying an M-16 assault rifle and walking through the street suqs in broad daylight. His officers quickly encircle the suspect and demand that he identify himself and turn over the weapon. The man turns out to be a member of one of the neighborhood's most powerful clans, and he refuses to give up his gun, "What's my name, boys?" he shouts to the gathering crowd of curious onlookers, "Mohassi Abbas!" the shout back. "See, everyone knows who I am," says the gunman, "I don't care who you are," Mushtaha calmly, without raising his voice or his weapon, "No one is above the law."
