Does anyone have any tips for catching these fish? I seem to have had the worst luck with finding these fish, I try to catch the fish in their respective locations, going in and out of houses to refresh or saving and continuing but I'm just about going out of my mind. So far I've put hours and hours into finding them. I've managed to catch 3 or 4 Dorados in a row but not a single Char or Gar
I mean I know they're marked as rare but this is ridiculous. Could it be related to how my river is in my town?
For the gar, try catching them at night after 9pm in the big pond/circle section of your river where it expands. The gar has a big shadow.
As for the char, you have to catch it at the waterfall where the river begins (not the ocean side). It has a small-medium shadow. Try to catch it at night after 9pm.
Best time to catch the Gar is in June after 9pm. The Dorado will be gone and is the only big fish left in the lake.
I walk the full length of the river and back again. Found that it helps to catch some fish as I go. Catching nothing and waiting for one to spawn didn't seem to work. Someone posted that when it rains it helps with rare fish. I tried it and it worked.
Going in and out of building helps too. After June you'll have to deal with another large fish that is a pain. Gar is 4pm to 9am. In one town all my players caught them early morning. In less than an hour each had their Gar.
With the Char you can find it in the waterfall going into the beach. I've caught char 9 tiles away from the waterfall going into the beach so try both spots. Time is 4pm to 9pm or 4am to 9am for June.
