Can't attract flies?

I was told that flies were supposed to be pretty common in New Leaf if you set a bunch of garbage outside and wait for them to come. I've had a stack of garbage outside for a week or so, and haven't encountered a single fly.

I was thinking about doing the rotten turnip trick, too, but I missed Joan this past Sunday so I'll have to wait on that. And also I've been reading that works for ants, but not for flies?

Any help would be appreciated.

From my experience I don't really think that flies are as common as some people claim them to be. The best thing you could do is just set out a bunch of trash in different places around your town and run by them a bunch hoping that one will spawn. If you do that then a fly should spawn eventually.

Tires worked for me but I think I got lucky because one spawned immediately.

Rotten turnips worked for me. I set the rotten turnips outside the train station and kept entering and exiting to reset the spawn. I got the ants a couple of times and then a fly showed up.

I don't think flies will show up if it's raining, though. You have to have a clear day.

Yep, that's because we were in the rainy season, but it should start drying out now that we're in July.
