can you plant bush starters in the snow ?

i haven't played for a while and a little uncertain, planted a few bush starters just now but they're on the..brown side LOL is that just because of their design in winter, or are they going to die ?

Also, the brown side could be that the trees are darker looking in winter , not as green as they usually look in summer or spring.
