Can you actually lose your items when you go to the island and back?

I've always had this in my mind because I hold my items when I go to the island. And he says most of your items will be back. What I want to know if this is true.

I can only say it's never happened to me and I'm always holding throwing beans with all my characters and normally have lots of items in my inventory as well. I've never heard of it happening to anyone else either. If it has happened to someone it might be a very rare glitch.

Barring a corrupt save file it's impossible to lose items from the island journey. However, if you would like a nice simulation of what it would be like to lose items from the dreaded Kapp'n then I will take any amount of items off you as soon as you leave the boat to and from the island absolutely for free! I ask for nothing in return. C:

They didn't. Kapp'n will always return all of your items.

I thought this happened to me but it turned out I put everything in letters right before I went & then forgot about it lol.....

You can travel back and forth while items still being in the chest. This is possible.

However, a distinct difference needs to be made.

Your own island is a part of your offline game. As far as I know nothing can go wrong there and it may even be so that items will still be there if you'd turn off your game while travelling back (never tested). I wouldn't worry as much here.

Your country's island or the international island is different. Saving is vital there. If you put an item in the chest on the island but get disconnected before you travel back to your island, you will lose everything you put in the chest. (happened to me before) Saving happens on the sea, when Kapp'n takes you back.

Even if the line is just a joke, I still find I always drop my inventory items on the beach before I go to the island just in case haha. It should be totally fine but I always drop 'em anyway.

Nope. The only way to actually 'accidentally' lose items is when you buy something on the island shop, or take any flowers or fruit and forget to deposit them into the box. But Leilani will ask you if you are okay with departing because items that are not in the box will be sold (via Leila who pays 1/20 of the Re-Tail prices) and put into your ABD the next day.
