Can not fully grown flowers produce hybrids?

I a single red lily adjacent to a fully grown white and yellow lily that just produced a black one today. The catch is that the red lily was also adjacent to 2 not fully grown red lilies that I just started growing yesterday night. Can anyone explain what happened here?

Huh- I guess so? I thought that only fully grown/budded flowers could propogate, but maybe they can, with just a lower rate?
