Can I switch devices without actually screwing up EVERYTHING?

Okay so like, I need to use my old 3ds to play ACNL. But like, I did this once before and it was like 30 days in the future, most of my favorite villies had moved out and my town was just crap. How do I prevent this from happening again?

Do I just set my the 3ds time on the old 3ds to my current in-game time? like, the system settings time?
God, I really don't want this to happen again. But I'm gonna have to play on my old system for a bit.​

Just take note of the current date in-game and when you start up the game on the old 3DS, if the time Isabelle tells you is wrong, tell her you want to change it

Sounds like your old 3DS is just set on the wrong day. Did you used to use it to TT? Just set it to the correct date and time according to your current game and it'll be fine.
