So, I built my cafe next to a bridge, no problem. Everything was placed perfectly. Then I got a villager request for a new style of bridge and demolished the existing bridge. Now my secretary insists there is no longer room for a bridge in this location. I finally just gave up and moved the bridge. But now I'm wondering - do different styles of bridges take up a different amount of space? If I go back to the original style of bridge will it fit back in the same location? Or can you build the cafe close to the bridge but not the bridge close to the cafe? It defies reason, and I hate my secretary today.

Hmmm, that is odd. I think it's possible different styles might have different ratios. Also, different public works projects have their own size placing plot...like When Isabelle says you need two spaces forward and three to the left, blah blah, and so on. Perhaps that plays a part. I know the bridges need quite a bit of space around them, and though they're smaller, possibly even less than the cafe. I don't know, just a thought :)

Yeah, the bridges have a larger placement range when you're trying to build them as opposed to when you're placing something near them. I've taken to assuming when you're building them, they also account for the fact that you could be building a diagonal bridge and are measuring distance accordingly, and afterwards placement is based on the type of bridge it actually is (horizontal/vertical vs diagonal).

Well, that's just so annoying. I was holding out a vague hope that if I reverted back to the previous style I might be able to rebuild it. I appreciate the advice, even though you have crushed my hopes, lol.

Just try different places bye where you want the bridge...
Or on the other side? Anyways, Good luck ^-^

Sigh, believe me I have. I've moved inch by inch down the bank on both sides. I just backed the cafe up too close to the river. Looks great from the front, and the bridge would have been fine if I had left well enough alone! Thanks though:)

I think it could be where the Cafe is located.. It requires a large berth around it and the bridge probably entrenches on that..
I hate how restricting PWP's are..

Oh, it is the cafe. It's just I had the bridge first, then built the cafe. And now that I've changed the bridge it doesn't fit back in the same spot. So the cafe could be built close to the bridge, but the bridge can't be rebuilt that close to the cafe. What kind of logic is that? Sigh.

Same thing happened to me a while ago.. I couldn't put bridges where I wanted and I actually restarted my town because of it (along with other reasons). Bridges are a real pain in the butt >.<

Good luck!

The same thing happened to me, except I didn't try putting the old one back, but I had to place the bridge in another location

To build a new bridge you have to have a 3x4 open area at each end of the bridge.

OOOWWWWOOO
OOOBBBBOOO
OOOBBBBOOO
OOOWWWWOOO

O = Open Area
W = Water/River
B = Bridge

But a villager or PWP can be placed only 1 space away from a bridge.
Nintendo Logic... go figure.

Thank you for the official word! I didn't really want to try every inch of the riverbank with each type of bridge again unless I knew it could work. I'll get used to the new traffic patterns in time, I'm sure.
