A tip is I may:
Upgrade your Nooklings so the gardening shop will be build. Stock up on axes whenever they are sold so you'll have 2-3 spare ones in your storage for whenever you need to cut trees. It helped me a lot.
If you need cash, look into Beetle Hunting at night at Tortimer's Island. A full box with beetles will earn you about 300k, and it only takes 20-25 minutes time.
