Do you guys do it?

I'm thinking about buying a used copy of ACWW, since a new one is $55, which I don't think is worth it at this point. But I've never bought a used game.

How do you trust that the card is not messed up (corrupted or dirty or whatever), or it won't mess up your 3DS? (Or whatever system you use, but I'm using a 3DS currently)

I buy a lot of used games. Before I leave the counter I make sure the discs aren't crusty, and that I have the original case and coverart. Manual is a plus, but not required. If it's a REALLY rare game, I'll let the original case slide....though I only have 1 game that I could not find a case for at one point, but I managed to find one later online.

Hmm, IDC so much about the case/art/manual...just the condition of the card. So you're saying as long as it's not visibly dirty, you trust that it isn't damaged?

If you are buying a used game, buy it in person and never online. (Unless you can never find the game anywhere near you.) My suggestion if you are buying it online is Amazon as they have it categorized of the game being new, used, or collectible (Which is used, but it usually includes everything that comes with it new.) Some sellers include images so try to look for those and the best deal possible.

As for Animal Crossing: Wild World, I looked on Amazon for you and I suggest going with "Mizu"s copy. He seems to have everything you'll need for half the price Amazon has Wild World brand new.

I'll consider that, thanks for looking it up. :) I'm curious why it says "both discs"? There should just be the 1 game card right? What's a disc? lol

I mostly buy brand new, but I do buy used copies sometimes. Before you buy, just make sure you can test out the cartridge first. I was able to buy a used copy of Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright and I saved approximately $8. It works great and I already finished the game without running into problems.

I often buy used games (both in-store and online) and have yet to have any problems. Some have come in broken boxes and often without manuals, but other times I get used games that are pristine. e.g. a couple years ago I saved ?30 on Yakuza 3 by buying it secondhand and it was in perfect condition. And when I picked up Pikmin 3 used a few months back it even had an unused Club Nintendo code inside the case. :D

I often buy used games I prefer buy in person than in online because it's risky

When I was a kid, I bought a lot of used N64, GBA, and GBC carts from Gamestop (Imagine, them selling N64 stuff at 2005).

And I never bought used games ever since.

I buy lots of games online, especially on ebay. Its good to look up if this person got possetive respond.

Hehe, nice! I'm sure lots of people could care less about CN. If only they gave better rewards...well I'm in NA and the rewards are kinda sucky imo.

I actually don't care about manuals and stuff. I'm not a collector, I just want to play. So I'll take everyone's opinion into consideration and probably just buy used from either Gamestop (I need to sell Tomodachi Life to them anyway) or get it from someone trustworthy on Amazon.

I've bought a lot of other junk there, so yeah maybe I'll look on ebay too. It's riskier cuz things either come from someone's home, and you really don't know how accountable they are, or they ship from Japan, and it'll be years before it actually gets to me. I do always look at their ratings though...

It's such a gamble :/ I bought soul silver a couple months ago and it was fine for a week but then it stopped reading the card. I went back to the store and exchanged it with heartgold. So glad they didn't ask what was wrong with it because I'm not good at lying

I bought for the first time a used game, and it was kingdom hearts. The thing is I bought it in a video game shop, and they sell used cartridges for 25?. Since it's a shop, of course they'll check if the cartridge works or not. And there is usually a guarantee.

I've bought many used games, I probably buy more used than new. I don't think I've ever had an issue with one of them not working, even from eBay. That may happen sometimes but it seems to be pretty rare, especially if you buy them from a store like Gamestop and not off of a random person online. I'd rather take the small risk than pay $50+ for a new game.

I feel better that you all have bought used and it's not a big deal. I guess if the price is low enough, it's not that big of a risk.

I was more concerned with the damage a bad game could do to my 3DS. I mean even for example getting it dirty, it would be hard to fix.

I buy used games from Gamestop if I can't find a new copy of it anywhere near me. Ideally, I would like to have the case with it because I like having a collection of cases, but I live.
I never buy used games from people unless I know them personally and I know they take good care of their things.
I recently obtained a pro membership for Gamestop too, and I guess they give you special offers for used games? I might be buying them more often now.

Not visibly dirty, or scratched to hell...yeah. Usually they let you return things with receipt within 7 days, and I'll know that day if it works or not, so there's no issues.
