Books are used to craft multiple recipes like "Wooden Bookshelf" and "Stack of Books", so it's a rare occasion to see them in the shop and it lets you buy more than 5 at a time (5 items is the daily catalog order limit). Very useful if you want to build a library on your island, or have multiple bookshelves for decoration.
