Blathers awake during the day?

For the second time in a couple of days I've walked into the museum with Blathers awake during the day. Has anybody else experienced this? In the past he's always been sleeping during the day and I've had to wake him up to give him items...

I'm wondering if it either has to do with the update or the fact that my gate is open/I have visitors?

He's like that when your gate is open, for some reason.

I never figured out why.

In the same way Sable won't chat to you when it's open, either.

It's your open gate! I was confused, too, but that's what causes it.

He's probably only awake when your gates are open for visitors. Just to make a good impression
