Birthday items

So I'm confused. I used to think you'd get all the birthday items (hat, cake, candles) on your birthday if you had befriended enough villagers. They would all give you an individual piece of the birthday set. But now I see somewhere that you only get 1 random piece of the set and that's it. So which is true?

The 1 random piece is true. To get the whole birthday set you'd have to
A. Wait until you had enough birthdays for all the pieces (The piece you get depends on your friendship with the villagers, so you'd have to change your friendships between them)
B. Make 4 charas and get pieces for each's birthday until you have them all
C. Time travel to get the pieces.
D. Something else? Not sure
It's a really hard set to get .

i just had a birthday in late november and..

the game picks the three villagers you have highest friendship with and one invites you over to their house. depending on your friendship level you will get a random piece per section of friendship levels. i believe if you aren't really good friends with any, but HAVE introduced yourself to 3 you will get the hat. if you're good friends (they wave/bow to you when called with megaphone) with 3, you can get either the cake or the shades. and then if you're maxed friendship you get either table, sign or candles.

and something that really stinks is that you can't TT backwards and have another bday party. when you go back there won't be a villager waiting by your door to invite you over for a party. the villagers you talk to will still say happy birthday, but no second present :< (yes.. i did try to get more than one piece... >.>)

i'm planning on making a second character and setting their birthday to a few days from now and introducing myself to the villagers just for the hat :3 i really like it!

Yeah, you can only get one item each year for your birthday unfortunately, making it an extremely hard set to get because you need to TT 5 years to get the full set, and the fact that the item you get will depend on your friendship level with your villagers makes it hard to predict which item you will get.

My dad got some birthday candles, and one of my non-mayor characters got shades (I think). I don't really care about the majority of these items, I'd rather just have the birthday cake that you'd get in past games. My mayor's birthday is coming up, so maybe I'll try resetting to see if I can get the birthday cake eventually with the right set of villagers. (?)

We go inside, were Rocket and Flo are waiting, and I get a present, make a wish and blow out the candles, and talk to everyone a few times. My present was a Soda Machine. No cake, hat, etc. I have until August 11th for another birthday, when Mayor Mew has hers. Her birthday is my real life one. Syden's was picked randomly.

You wont get the birthday stuff unless you have a high friendship with your villagers. Since there is no way to get an exact level I'm thinking your villager wasn't in town long or doesn't talk much or do favors enough to raise the friendship level, but that's just my guess.

I got birthday shades which you supposedly get "(if you're good friends with a neighbor)". That's kind of an eye opener, if it's true, because I already received a picture.

I guess it's time for a second villager who's birthday is somewhere in the summer.
