Best way to get furniture?

Hi! I've had my game for maybe about a month or so now, and I'm finding it really hard to get furniture in specific sets that i like.. I've owned previous versions and didn't seem to have much trouble with finding furniture, not sure if it's partly due to the fact that i don't time travel or do the money cheat any more. I haven't picked up anyone's data on streetpass yet either, so nothing shows up in the section out the back of the town. Does anyone have any advice on getting more furniture? Thanks

Streetpass definitely helps, since you can order furniture there. Other than that, furniture's kind of tricky in my experience. Shake all of your trees every day to find the two furniture trees? Check your police station? Be incredibly, unbelievably patient and just check Timmy and Tommy's store everyday? Worst case scenario, go onto the Retail forum and post a list of furniture you want to buy?
