hii everyone!
i have always heard about splatoon, and seen it. however, i have never played it.
is there a specific splatoon game you should start with? or does it not matter? i might be getting the switch in march for animal crossing, and i wanted some more games.
so would splatoon 2 on the switch be okay to start with?
thank you for reading <3

definitely consider splatoon 2 if you get a switch. you dont need to buy the original, its basically the same game with updated mechanics, new modes and it still gets updated sometimes. i personally like the original more but a lot of people would probably disagree with me on that. its one of the best games on the switch right now

I would go for Splatoon 2, since it has more to offer compared to the first title. I also started back then playing the second one, as I had no Wii U and therefore no opportunity to play the first one, but I had no issues with this. You get the gameplay and every step explained, so it's not too difficult at the beginning to get into the game. In terms of the story (as there are some references to the story from the first game), it's enough if you just watch a Let's Play if you want more context to certain things. Overall, you won't make a mistake if you get the Switch title here.

Splatoon 2 is really fun! It's probably my most played game after ACNL. I never cared much for the storyline in either game and to this day I'm still a bit clueless about it. But I play online a lot, even now. I have to say, the online matchmaking for this game is terrible. I don't mean by connection, but just by how the RNG pairs you up with others in team/ranked modes. So if you are a little competitive, you might get frustrated with what seems like unfair matchmaking at times. But I'm a really casual player so ranks don't bother me as much. I still find the game super enjoyable and I've been playing the same mode for like months straight without getting bored (Salmon Run) and I still love it!

I love both of the games. I've been playing since December 2016 (after all Splatfests in Splatoon 1), and got Splatoon 2 exactly one year later. I'd recommend starting with Splatoon 2. Even though it isn't being updated anymore and there are no more Splatfests, you can still find plenty of fairly new players to get a good start with how it works. The only downside is you have to pay 20-35$ a year to play online.
