I've always wanted a feature where you can make one villager your best friend, and that villager will never move. You can only do it once so you really need to have that connection.
aw, geez, but i want to keep nine of my villagers, how can i pick one?
this reminds me of a thread i made a while ago on vacations. like maybe in the next ac game, there could be a mechanic that prevents villagers from moving out, but doesn't keep them confined to the same town all the time. sometimes i feel bad depriving my bear cubs of adventure, so i'd be ecstatic if they could take vacations.
here's how i think it'd work:
like with moving, villagers ping you to let you know they're leaving on a vacation. unlike moving, you have no choice in the matter. they can also leave on vacation without warning. their house will stay in town, but a note on the door would say something like "on vacation. see you when i get back!" they may also send a letter if you didn't get to say goodbye to them. and when they get back, if your friendship levels are high they can gift you a rare item as a souvenir. if you friendship level isn't that high you just get a regular item.
moving would stay in the game, but unlike vacations you have complete control over whether they move or not, and they cannot move without your say in the matter. however, this sounds dumb but there could also possibly be negative numbers of friendship levels? and if you ask them not to move they'll do it anyway because they don't care what you think, because you've been so mean to them. negative friendship levels would also affect vacations, as the villager will not make any effort to tell you about it, and they won't give you anything when they get back. they'll just talk to you like a regular villager, but they won't talk about their vacation at all.
sorry if this is like. intrusive. this thread just made me think about ideas i've had
