Beetle Catching Help!

To catch them, you gotta move the directional stick reeeeeeeeallllly slowly. Even when holding down the A button, if you go at full pace they'll fly off.

Basically, Hercules and Golden stags are the way to go.
Everything else on the palm trees are ok.

Something to add to what Amykins said: If you chop down all of the trees in the middle of the island, more bugs will appear on the palm trees. I'm not sure if that's in the link, but I'm posting it here so it's easier to see.

I'd say try to only catch things worth 8K and up. I usually scare off the goliath beetles because they are only worth 6K.

I'm averaging 400,000 a night if I fill up the island chest. :3 I forgot the tree part, I cut down everything but 4 palm trees. That pretty much guarantees a beetle every time I circle the island. It's busy work, but the money is worth it!
I cut down all the trees but two palm trees and I can make over 300K in a half hour...if no beetles show up on the palms I just run around and scare off the warf roaches and tiger beetles and hermit crabs and viola...my palms both have beetles again. I fill my chest about 3 times a night after 7pm. I am trying to build my bank while paying off house loans and PWPs at the same time.
I also will fish for sharks when I see a fin as well as beetles but mostly stick to beetles. And any on the palms will get you 6k or more...the Hercules and golden are worth the most and the goliath are worth the least but still 6K...I do tend to replace those with higher priced beetles when I can though.

Take it further- I removed all flowers & bushes. Butterflies spawn waaaay less! Good luck everyone!

I stopped catching beetles a few weeks ago, when I started using turnips, now money is no problem for me lol
oh yes, I did that...everything on my island is gone except for the two palms! and I only kept the palms that spawned the most when ALL my trees were still there...not sure if that mattered or not. I also go around and get rid of all the shells when I first get there and sell them for the paltry bells that the child gives me just so I know when a shell shows up it is a hermit crab...I guess I am a bit ocd LOL

so far my turnip prices have stunk so I stopped buying them...on average I am lucky if I can make 10 extra bells per turnip
I haven't tried the turnip threads yet, so I don't understand how they work.Hahahahha! That's very clever, Jen! I buried my shells- may have been silly to do so, not sure.
heh I figure even having an extra hundred bells is better than nothing...I was piling them up on the grass hoping it would stop the tiger beetles but it didn't seem to make a difference

The best sharks are worth only a thousand more than the best beetles (if I recall correctly)--only rarer and harder to catch. Plus there's the very good chance of catching a sunfish, which makes the whole shark harvest not worth it to me since they're worth less than good beetles. Expensive beetles are the way to go.
You can get lucky with turnips, but the risk and the effort make it not worth it to me. I'll stick with beetles.

I don't get sunfish all that often...I generally get the whale shark and hammerhead which are around the same as the beetles...the regular shark is 15K and I do get that one often enough...but beetles are definitely the way to go.

A tip for scaring off the wharf roaches: I know I found them kind of irritating to run off, but I found out a sure-fire way to get them to run away. Just swing your net close to them, but don't catch them. They'll run for the nearest water or just disappear. Much quicker than trying to run after them to scare them away.

you just post your prices to the spreadsheet
and when you find someone with a high price you PM them and ask them to come and sell your turnips.
