Bamboo shoots question

I have a question about bamboo shoots c: I was wondering if bamboo shoots would grow when planted beside pathways that you put down. Would it count as a space that would stop the bamboo from growing, or will it work fine? Thanks!

You can plant bamboos (and trees and bushes) near pathways with no problem.

Bamboo definitely grows beside pathways.

But pathways and flowers can prevent the bamboo from spreading and taking over, too.

Patterns that you place on the ground don't count as objects, so yes you can grow things or places PWPs or houses right next to them.

Ah, makes sense! How far do bamboo shoots have to be planted away from houses in order for them not to die? I put 1 space between the house and the bamboo shoot and it died (there was space around all sides as well).

You need one empty space all around the bamboo shoot (the same applies for trees), which ends up making a 3x3 space with the bamboo plant in the middle (you can grow stuff right next to the cobblestone at the train station/plaza/etc., though). I've heard that there are spots where nothing seems to want to grow, though, so you may have just gotten unlucky if you left it enough space to grow. If a sapling (and I'm guessing a bamboo shoot as well) is also surrounded by already-grown trees, they can also die because they're in the shade even if they have the room to grow, so watch for that as well.
