As we know, a lot of Threads have favorite or underrated Villagers you like, but what’s their backstory? Why do you like those villagers? Is it only because of the looks or is there a deeper meaning behind it?

I will start with some of mine, to show you some examples:

Jacques: As you know, I have him as my Profile Pic, because I love Birds in real life. We also have visits from several Blackbirds in our Courtyard and that’s what he’s probably based on. They really love our Apples.

Rod: As a little boy I had an obsession with Rattata from Pokémon. I always thought it looked cute and I always tried to obtain one in every single Game I played and kept it until the end (Won against the Top 4 and Champion with a Raticate). Well, Rod has the same color and I also found him really cute, when I saw him first time. Didn’t even know he was in Animal Crossing E+ at First, so I was glad they brought him back later.

Cherry: We all had our Favorit Cartoon Shows when we were little and mine was Clifford the Big Red Dog. Such good memories from my Childhood and so I really began to like Cherry. Later I also began to adore Gothic/Punk Style and how it looked, which made me love Cherry even more. I never wore any of those clothes, but still.

For the Rest it’s Hard to tell. I guess some of them really only appealed to me, because of aesthetics and good memories from previous Games.

If you don’t have any Backstorys, it’s also okay if you just say what feature you like about them.

I hope this thread isn’t too boring or repetitive for someone. Otherwise it can be deleted. Just wanted to know your thoughts.

Marshal : This happened way before he soared in popularity. He was a random move in my first NL town. He set his house next to mine and I was so ready to hate on him. He was new in NL and I had no idea who Marshal was when I saw the plot. I felt really bad because I’d have to adjust my grand plans for my house because I suddenly had a next door neighbor so close to me.

However, he won me over. He was so sweet and funny. I had Julian the same time as I had him then and they’re both Smugs but Julian didn’t connect with me the same way as Marshal. Marshal and I became super close and he became my NL BFF. My screenshots are filled with him saying things like I’m his best friend and stuff even to other players on my town.

One time, he told another player in my town that he’s so happy because I gave him a gift and that it came from his bestest friend in the world and that the player should be jealous of me because he loves me the most. They were able to screenshot this and show it to me.

I became so attached to him then that whenever I boot up the game, my first instinct was to look for him outside my house. Since that time, he’s been my best boy. So much so that whenever I make another NL town, he’s the only one allowed to live next to me. Anyone else gets booted out. No one can plot a house next to mine except for Marshal, my best boy forever and ever. I don’t care that he became so popular and because of that a lot of people have been calling him overrated. He’s not to me. He will never be. To me, he’ll never be Marshal, the most popular villager in the highest tier of villager popularity lists. He’ll always remain as JUST MARSHAL, my next door neighbor—-my bestest animal friend in the whole wide world. 🥺

Eugene: The sole reason I even made an account for this site in the first place was because as soon as I found out about Eugene's existence, I wanted him immediately. At the time, I was still in school and my class made us read The Outsiders, to which I absolutely fell in-love with. I'm talking about a full on PHASE: I was obsessed with it akin to some other kid being obsessed with Warrior Cats.
Whoever hasn't read The Outsiders, it's a coming-of-age about greasers. Eugene is, you guessed it, based off of greasers. So finding Eugene while also reading this book, well... You could only imagine my excitement! Eugene is even the youngest of 3, according to April Fools info, which matches up with Ponyboy, the protag of The Outsiders who is also the youngest of 3.

Kabuki: I don't think my reasoning for liking him isn't very deep other than the kabuki aesthetic being Really Great, but I do have somewhat of a story for him. So, Kabuki was a random move-in when I first started NL, and I loved him a lot! But back then, I was a huge reckless TTer, so Kabuki ended up moving away, house gone and all. So what I did was, I switched off my Wifi and turned my 3DS off, and only turned both back on when I was alone with my friend in the bathroom to ensure that they and ONLY they got Kabuki from my void. And they did!

It takes months for Kabuki to get out, to which then I invite him to my second town. This is where my memory starts to get fuzzy. For some reason, I make a backup of my second town (maybe i wanted to mod my town or something??), then shortly after, my love for Animal Crossing starts to die down, and I stop playing altogether. Months or maybe a few years later, my 3DS gets BSoD. The town Kabuki was in was a digital copy that wasn't saved to an SD card, so he was supposedly gone forever, save for the backup on my computer, which I had no clue what to do with!

This was where I discovered that the files I backed up was able to be loaded into a game if I had the right stuff. So I downloaded a bunch of stuff for and on my 3DS, and got my town back, and Kabuki was alive, the same one from my original town. He even remembered me! ...Then I stop playing again for even MORE years.

It wasn't until 2018-2019 that I was able to FINALLY successfully cycle out 16 villagers and invite Kabuki back in. And now he's back in my town... only for me to never play again for the third time, now that NH is out. I know I could've just... adopted another Kabuki, but this Kabuki remembered who I was, dammit!

Anyway, that's the story of how it took 3 or 4 years for me to get Kabuki back into my town.

Chrissy became a world famous pop star alongside her sister, Francine, and wanted to retire and fade into obscurity. She moved to an island to escape Hollywood and its superficiality.

Gayle joined multiple volunteering nonprofit organizations and decided to move to an island to decide what her next move would be.

Zell is obviously a gambler and lives on my island to manage his offshore bank accounts lol.

Drago and Dom just wanted a place to relax and sleep most of their day away.

Lobo wanted to move to an island because of a movie he saw about survival in the wildnerness.

Kiki wanted to move to an island for inspiration to write her next book. Away from the busy, fast-paced lifestyle of the city will do her good!

Bob: I’ve had him ever since GameCube, around when new leaf came out I was going through a big crisis in life, wondering who I was and who I wanted to become, bob was always nice to me and made me look forward to playing new leaf every day. Now with new horizons I’m having another crisis this one mostly with my sexuality and gender, no matter what I wear bob always compliments my outfit and loves me for who I am.

Kid cat: my favorite jock villager and also good friend, his picture was the first one I ever got in wild world I love how he looks like a power ranger! He’s a super hero in my eyes.

Ankha: Love her due to the fact that she is a cat which is my favorite animal also my moms as well, not only that but she's very unique and stands out from the other cat villagers, her personality being snooty also is a plus since I don't like most of the snooty villagers, and because I love learning about Egypt and the pyramids which is a hobby of mine so it makes sense that Ankha is my favorite villager!

Chief: he looks like my cat, same colors and all. plus he was my first wolf villager!

Cole: he was an original villager in my very first NL town, even when I abandoned it for months and came back he was always there.

my other favorite villagers don't have a personal meaning to me, I just like the way they look lol

In the original Animal Crossing, one of my favorite villagers was the jock tiger Tybalt. One day out of the blue he sent me a letter saying that I was his best friend in the whole world. I'm not the biggest fan of the new tiger model, but he's still the same guy who said I was his best friend back when I was a little kid & I'd love to have him on my island.

Ankha grew on me as soon as I realized we had the same birthday (plus cat, and I've always loved cats) which drew my interest. Of course, whenever any character in anything draws my interest, I tend to want to know everything about them, so it was sort of inevitable that I would want the Egyptian cat in my town. I never got her in New Leaf, so I was desperate to get her in New Horizons. So, I bought a box with 18 random card unopened packs, hoping to acquire her amiibo card. Luckily I did, and now I have her on my island.

Wolfgang was an original Wild World favourite because my sister had him in her town as a starter. When I finally got my own town, he randomly left her town and came to mine to live. And I loved him immediately.

Bob was my favorite from GC. He was the very first neighbor I ever talked to. I haven't had him in any games since but I imagine he's still in that old town, he'll move somewhere new one day and maybe I'll meet him again. I like to think he's an adult but doesn't want to be, so he keeps his childish room the way it is and eats and sleeps like he's young.

Favorite from WW was Dotty. She moved in one day and we became such good friends. Middle school me used to joke that she was my girlfriend. Adult me cringes at the furrybait implication, but the sentiment is still there. She was the best and she'd better be a famous pop star somewhere.

Who did I even like in City Folk? I don't remember. But you know who I didn't like? Queenie. And I loved to hate her, too. She was mean, and rude, and never warmed up to me. I like to think she used to live rich and wanted to get away and relax in a small, quiet village, bit once she got there she hated that too and made it her purpose to belittle everyone in town.

In NL I loved into a town with Rolf and Pompom. Those two were unlikely friends but close regardless. Then one day Pompom moved away to work as an actress, and while he was supportive of his best friend, Rolf was deeply sad that his best friend left.

Oh jeez it's 1am I'm coming up with weird stories.

Anyway, NH, Billy and Plucky used to live on a farm together and decided they both felt adventurous and capable enough to take up Nook's getaway package idea. Being cofounders of a whole island community is satisfying to two who came from such a simple country life, and the eccentric and exotic new neighbors really make them feel like they've done something good.

Mitzi: My very first villager in New Leaf, the one who stayed after years and years (she's one of my OG villagers). She's become the mascot of my town (and island as well because I bought her Amiibo.) I have her face as my town flag. Not right now though, but I'll fix that soon. She's sweet and I love her cute face so much that I actually have her smiling face as my custom discord emote.

I think she's the one with the most sentimental value to me, the rest are just "cause they cute as hell".

Ankha: She was one of the OG snooty villagers I had back in my NL town and apart from her design (Egyptian concept + cat, what's not to love?) she was the first villager to give me her picture and that held a lot of meaning to my teen self, especially with how lonely I felt back then in school I was so happy that I finally had someone to consider my best friend lol. After that I stopped playing for a couple of weeks and when I came back I was gutted to know that she moved out, hence in NH I'm determined to find her again and make her a permanent villager on my island.

Stitches was my favorite in Wild World. He was one of my starters and I grew to love him. I was heartbroken when he moved out.... Could not bring myself to pick up my DS after that....

blanche is my birthday twin! she's my absolute favourite - i love her design, her house aesthetic, her catchphrase, and that she's snooty!! i'm so happy to finally have her on my island!

i played wild world when i was 6-7 and i had a BIG crush on camofrog for whatever reason. he's a nostalgic dreamie because i always think about how i'd write this weird lookin camouflage amphibian all these cringeworthy weird lovey letters and he would call me weird nicknames like "Dr. J" and "missy" LMAOOO i really wish i could see some of these letters again, but having him on my island would be good enough for the laughs.

maple is one because i picked up new leaf a few days before new horizons came out, and she had just moved in! she was really sweet and i felt kinda bad leaving her behind so soon after she'd arrived! i also had ruby and zucker in my first 2013 new leaf town that i reset on a whim in 2017 and then immediately regretted.

the rest, i just love because of their cute design.

Saw the title and thought this thread was gonna be about making up crazy histories for the villagers, was gonna say that Hans is the retired yeti from ski free :ROFLMAO:

Hans was my next door neighbour in New Leaf for so long I actually can't remember when he moved in. I bought the game on release and I'm pretty sure he was one of the earliest move ins and he moved right next to me. I talked to him everyday for years!

i reset my new leaf town sometime in 2017 - and what do you know, gayle was one of my starters. although i wasn't the biggest fan of her at first, i immediately grew to love her lots and lots, she's still in my NL town and i ran across her once while island hopping. immediately regretted not adopting her and she's one of my dreamies for NH!
