I think they're okay in game, depending on what face and outfit your mayor has. Once my mayor starts wearing them, I can't take them off! aha.
I actually went to the optician two weeks ago and they said I needed glasses, so I chose some of the thick ones. Geek chic, right? aha. Anyway I really like them. They were men's frames but I don't give a hootlydoodle. Some people were mean about them but I'm just like screw you I'm fabulous goodbye.
People are still mean when it comes to glasses? I thought that thing had passed. I remember when I was younger, kids would make fun of me for wearing glasses. The teacher said smart people wear glasses. xD I'm a bit of the same way with my mayor wearing the thick glasses, too. At first I thought they looked weird on him. They kind of grew on me, so him without the glasses looks a bit strange for some reason.
I've worn thick glasses from the moment I saw them in game - they look just like my glasses in real like which I rarely ever take off.

I think it's because they're kind of a thing in real life too... no idea though. I personally think they look awkward on the character's faces.
That could be it. They really do look awkward. In comparison to the other glasses, I prefer the thick ones, because I can still see my characters eyes. The other glasses are thin and I'm not generally fond of those ones as I am with real ones.
Thick glasses is just a lvl 1 hipater accessory.
The Tortoise Specs is an upgrade to that. ?1000 more immune to the mainstream.

Eh, I don't like them in real life or animal crossing. They just look weird to me. I wear the 3D glasses.
Not a conformist, I see. xD That's OK. I've only seen very few people wear the 3D Glasses.
It's sort of a nerdy yet cute look. I haven't found any in my town though. :c A while back, a user here I traded with was wearing them, and I thought it looked really cute. So since then I've loved wearing the thick glasses on any of my {previous?} mayors. ^^
