Are long load times normal?

Yes, unfortunately. It's getting really frustrating, but it's pretty normal. ):

Yeah, I've noticed the same. Not sure if it's through now having like 400 active days played campsite resetting, or the 2000 flowers that have spread everywhere while I've gone, but the game is significanty slower and has started getting comunication errors 80% of the time I leave the airport or resident services while the gate is open. :/

This happened in NL to Hedgehugs. If you were the host you would get back to the game after the others loaded in. It's a bit annoying.

Also since Day 1 I've noticed the load times have always dragged on. I literally play on my computer until Isabelle shows up to announce the day (or in most cases nothing)

From my experience, the loading times got longer when we got version 1.2.0. I have a feeling it had to do something with more game assets added in the game which would take more time to load. Even when I progress the next day in-game, the loading times were unusually long lasting nearly a minute and at first thought, my game was going to crash. It could probably get worse or better in the next update, depending on how much time Nintendo spends on optimizing the game with these added updates.

My loading times feel about the same as they always have, which is kind of slow, but not anything crazy, and certainly nothing that gives me enough time to check or do something else while I wait. Maybe it takes longer if you have lots of items/trees/flowers? I’m nowhere near finished with my island, so I have a bit of empty space, and none of my areas are super jam packed.

Hopefully the next update helps with loading times somehow. I imagine everyone’s will start to drag on at some point if it’s related to how much stuff you have.

The loading time for the daily announcements is horrendous but I know my friends go through it too so I think it's normal, for now at least

I think ACNH is a pretty heavy game. My Switch is always loud when I play it and it froze on me when I played it for hours on end before.

I assume that when you start up the game, it has to find the information for the whole island and load it all up. It has to find every flower, every tree, every villager, every NPC and so much more. Long loading times are pretty normal

The loading time from when you click the icon on the menu and until the home screen shows up is a rather long wait. Then when you click start, that loading time takes a long time too.

But it's always done that for me since day one.

Oh lord that first load screen of the day really gets me... but I assume it's because I have enough items on the ground to evoke the 5-star island gods or something. :)

No other loading screen seems to give me any grief really.

idk if you mean online but recently when people leave an island, loading/saving time takes forever to the point where it makes me nervous! it’s been happening a lot more recently - same with regular loading times for offline playing. it’s so :-/

I've had several minute long boot up screens since launch day so I think it's just because I have crappy internet. It's always a lot quicker if I sit next to my router and boot. I'm not sure how long usual load times are without bad internet but that could be the issue.

It's absolutely terrible.

Over a minute.

Then another minute.

It also takes nearly 10 seconds to walk into another room. O_o

It might be just be my impression, but it feels like stuff loads faster when I'm in airplane mode.
Yes I have noticed this too. I have 2 wifi networks in my house and one of them works and the other one only works in one room and is otherwise suuuuuper slow, and I found that if my switch connects to the slow one and I start up the game, the loading screen takes 10x as long to load, but if I put it on the other wifi its "normal," and if I put it on airplane mode its ever faster.

I noticed that if I put my Switch on airplane mode, then the load times are super fast. It's only when the wi-fi is on that it takes 6 minutes to load from start to finish...

My advice: Put it on airplane mode when you boot up
