I am so happy I restarted my island a couple months ago. I was SO unsatisfied with it and moving all of the buildings and undoing all of the terraforming actually seemed more overwhelming than just starting with a clean slate. It helped me to have a little stockpile of inspo and a general idea of what I wanted to do with my island when I restarted plus after trying to work around the base layout for my first island and realizing what I did/did not like about it, it was much easier choosing a layout for my island now
I've had a total of 3 islands. The one I had on release day, the second one that I restarted as well, and my current one. I reset the first two because I kept doing dumb stuff that ruined the islands and the game experience for me so I stopped doing all of the things I had issues with on this third island. It is so far my favorite, most meaningful, and one that I never plan on resetting now that I'm comfortable in it. 3rd times the charm I guess!
I restarted last month and I'm so happy I did! I love my new island and already connect with it way more. Probably because I like the name and layout way more than my first. Just unlocked terraforming and I'm super excited. My motivation for terraforming on my first island was non-existent. I had 300+ hrs, completed all fossils and had tons of DIYs. So there was a lot of anxiety tied to restarting at first. Honestly wish I would of have done it sooner! Starting over has been a lot of fun and gives me plenty to do.
I did. Before I had my island almost completely laid out how I wanted it and all the villagers I wanted and no desire to play. So I decided to restart. Now I have a few rules in place for myself. One of them is that I'm not allowed more than a certain number of permanent villagers so I have to keep cycling. I need to make a point to hunt them down and not buy them. I've accepted some gifted but for the most part it's hunting and no buying period. I'm not allowing myself to have the same layout as before, which is difficult. I also want to have an earea I change constantly in the end for every season but not allowed to repeat design.
It keeps me having things to do so I don't get bored or burned out.
I actually restarted my first ever island a couple days after the game came out, I wanted a better river layout. I just time-travelled by to release date at 12AM my time and played back to where I left off day by day. Not exactly time-travel free, but I love my new island way more.
I restarted once, but in the early days of the game. Like, day two, I think? I had an island for a little while but never reached K.K. or anything. But I couldn't get into it. At first I liked the layout but, the more I thought about it, the more unhappy I was. So, I restarted and reset a bunch to get a layout I loved.. Now I LOVE my island! I normally restart a few months in, but I want to see if I can keep this island for a whole year. The ability to terraform and change parts of the layout REALLY helps.
I have restarted 2 times since the game came out. Its not because I didnt like my previous islands but simply because I was done because I spent so many hours a day customising and terraforming stuff. the island I have now I love since im taking it much slower and playing it day by day
