The title asks the main question. Now, I'm talking about anything- Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, etc.
I've recently left Instagram. I can honestly say that it feels like 'escaping'- and I see mental changes as well as better productivity. Whenever work and school are done I have to do something productive/stimulating to pass the time, like reading, writing, practicing my drawing, and listening to music. If I do use the devices I'm either on here (which I don't count as a main form of social media) or playing Animal Crossing. Sometimes I use Pinterest for New Leaf QR codes or inspiration. No one can change my mind when I say they're healthier than Twitter.
I love not having the impulse to scroll for an hour feeling jealous of others and shooting blue lights into my brain, lol.
I was off of social media for the month of January as a "Digital Detox" and I had a great time with it. I noticed my focus increased a lot by having all social media/distraction apps off my phone, and I read The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring while I was offline too. I would recommend it to everyone.
I don't use any form of social media. I never have and never will. I just don't need to know everything that's going on in everybody else's lives and I don't want them to know everything going on in my life. I feel that my life is complete without it. The closest I get to social media is forums such as this one, but I don't really consider that the same thing.
i think there's def a way to be conscious about your social media use if you really try to. i do use some social media sites (twitter, instagram, reddit if you count that) but i've recently been trying to stop using them in a way that's just rly unproductive and mindless
twitter i like for getting updates on people who make stuff i like (musicians, youtubers, companies like nintendo), instagram i like cause it lets me keep in touch with old friends from time to time, reddit honestly i kinda just use to buy and sell stuff these days lol.
it's not really social media itself thats the problem imo its just how easy it is to waste time doing nothing on it, and if ur not careful it can really hurt your mental state
I only use fb and instagram for their messaging/chat so I can communicate with my friends but I rarely ever post. I don’t think I’ve posted on fb for well over a year and I rarely browse it. I use twitter for my gaming tweets because it’s easy to upload pictures from my switch and 3DS, never personal though.
I only have tumblr and discord. I go there occasionally. I used to have instagram but I realized how bad it was affecting me that I decided to delete my account. I was an idiot and remade another account and it was still bad for me and my health but I'm glad I officially called it quits.
I use Discord, TBT, and Twitter. I’m not really active at the moment on Twitter though. Thank goodness, because that place is a nightmare sometimes 0_o
Hmm, i think i use almost all of the social medias like Discord, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Tumblr, Facebook, etc. The sole purpose of having them for me is to share my works and find out other's works, although yeah sometimes they can be the reason of mental health problems for me
Well, forums are a type of social media...sooooo...
Otherwise I do use facebook, instagram and a few more specific ones. Generally I use them for my bands music, but I use them anyway outside of that. I never post anything on my own accounts, I think the last time I posted something on social media websites was like 2013, but I find them a good source for local news and news for subjects that interest me as well as tasty memes.
Facebook messenger is also my primary way of getting in touch with the vast majority of people I want to get in touch with.
I'm seeing it mentioned a few times but I'm not seeing how Discord is social media. Maybe its changed since I last used it (a good while ago admittedly) but last I did it was a glorified instant messaging app. I don't remember there being anything I would associate with social media on Discord.
I have a Tumblr, a Deviantart that I'm never on, and Discord. I want to try and distance myself from social media, because although I don't use a lot and mainly use them to look at memes or talk to friends, I know I'd probably feel a lot better without it.
I think I also made a facebook, for whatever reason. And I have a twitter that's just for uploading screenshots I take from my 3DS or Switch.
I prefer to interact on forums yeah, but I do have Twitter, Reddit and Tumblr just to have something to interesting to read and pass the time sometimes. On all three sites you can customize your experience and very easily get rid of most of the toxicity, and I'm not going to check trends if I know they're going to be awful.
But I agree with the sentiment of this thread though. They aren't the most toxic places I ever visited, but I really don't want to interact on them. Maybe I'm just scared of the worst case scenario, but forums about things have always just been more chill and fun to use. My parents use Facebook and their feed is sooooo toxic. It's definitely better to focus on your own hobby and talking about that.
First off, I don't consider Discord to be "social media" - it's a chat app like Skype, MSN ect. Not sure where people are getting "social media" from that
But to answer the question, I do use some sites but less than I used to. Nowadays I only use Facebook for keeping track of nearby events and sometimes groups related to stuff I like, and for Tumblr I mostly just check up on specific blogs I like. The only one I currently actively use is Twitter, and even there I have my "on-and-off" moments. Otherwise it's mostly just forums and Discord, and I generally prefer talking on forums (not including Reddit, which is a different experience, though I occasionally use Reddit too) to social media
i havent used social media at all for a couple of years. i dont think discord counts because i never join other servers and i only use it to talk to like 2 people. dont know if forums count either
I wouldn't say forums count either, they're a different experience - for me, one of the differences is what you see on social media depends on who you follow/friend (not counting ads/promotional posts. ect), while forums show the same thing for everyone and it's more like a community of the same users for everyone.
I use instagram, snapchat, sometimes fb and sometimes tumblr. Didnt use social media for 2 months when my phone broke but I use them for memes and education-y stuff. Plus I like to see how my friends are since we cant always hang out or talk on the phone
Personally I dont get jealous/low self esteem/angry from Social media so it doesn't bother me at all. My life is also productive enough I dont feel as though its wasting my time. Doing nothing for an hour > stressing
